Can you find your home on Google Earth?

The close suburb (Villejuif and my home are close suburb) are part of the urban area of Paris. We call ourselves Parisian when we speak to strangers. ;)
I was intrigued by the name Villejuif. According to Wikipedia, the area was named Villa Judea in the early 12th century. Modern historians believe it was originally the estate of Juvius or Juveus, a Gallo-Roman landowner. Well, that certainly sounds better than “Jewtown”!

Well... where I live now is pretty boring (across the street from Best Buy).

Where I grew up was more interesting...

... though my family stopped living there back in the early 1990s (from what I understand). It looks nicer than it was. Not having a car meant that being half way down the strand was the equivalent of being marooned out in the middle of nowhere.

And where I went to college (Muir College) and where I was born (Scripps) happens to be about a mile apart.

Which made it fun when meeting new students. The question most of them would ask was "Where are you from?" And I would point at Scripps and say "Over there." To which they would usually clarify "Where are you from originally?"... and I would give the same answer. :D

This is southern Ontario:

This is the city of Toronto (I would be in the red boundary):

And this is the section of Toronto called Victoria Village (I live somewhere in the almost-square created by the three main roads and highway in this image):

I'd post a view of the San Fernando Valley neighborhood I grew up in, except that it's just another generic suburb that looks pretty much like the area I'm living in now -- only with more single-family homes and more swimming pools.

BTW, for those who remember Moon Zappa's song, Encino is NOT totally bitchin’. I wouldn't say it's even PARTIALLY bitchin’.

Yes i can and it creeps the shit out of me. Big Brother is definitely watching!

I can actually zoom in to my son's house in Va, get a view of it from the street and look up and down his street. Now that is some scary-ass technology!

I just discovered the street-level photos a couple days ago. Found my former place of employment, w/ my co-workers' vehicles and mine parked on the street. And the director sitting in his. Yikes!

I can find my residence, too, though not at street level, thank goodness.

Yes, I can find it, but they apparently took the pic in the middle of winter and all the plants are dead and grey! Looks like something from a Tim Burton movie. :scream:

Maybe I should start Googling around the Los Angeles area. I wonder what my chances would be of catching Lucy Liu poolside.

And that isn't even the best of it. I can't say it should bother you much though. Unless you're hiding something. :shifty:

Frankly, I don't find it any more bothersome than accidentally ending up in the background of someone else's holiday photos. And God knows how many of those any of us are in.

Actually in my case, I can get a more up-to-date and clearer photo of my area from MapQuest than I get from Google Earth.

And here's where I used to work (the complex takes up the entire picture). Anyone who can guess what this might be wins a virtual cookie.

I got bored and so I looked it up. It's on the corner of St. Laurent and Belfast. According to Wikipedia, it's OC Transpo's headquarters. Am I right?

That's it! Please enjoy your virtual cookie responsibly.

It's interesting seeing people's differing responses to Google Earth. For me, it's just an image—I think it's neat seeing my building on the internet, and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's no worse than being in the phone book.

I can find all my houses, apartments, and workplaces. Right now I am on a mission to find my car!

And here's my apartment building:

So, can anyone else find their home, place of work, or just someplace you hang out on Google Earth?
Heh, small world. I used Google Maps for this, instead of Google Earth, and I don't live there now, but from early 2004 to mid-2006, I lived little more than a block away from you.

The house with the metal frame in front is where i was born and lived until i was 10:

A real, honest-to-God windmill!

(Okay, I promise no “dike” jokes.)

If you find her, could you upload the pics for the rest of us?

I used to live very close to there myself. It was great being able to walk everywhere.
