I know Odo doesn't eat, but he has tasted food and drink. And as an outside observer of humanoids eating, he couldn't appreciate the experience of enjoying food, savoring food, being satiated, etc., though he might have taste buds. Mimicking human sexuality without the emotions connected to them would be a similarly detached experience.

Odo only knew about that Admiral changeling cause he was being an asshole.

The Admiral. He was being rather nasty to Odo, because previously Odo had killed another Changeling ('The Adversary'), something that had never happened before.

So when the Admiral was being so hostile to Odo, Odo picked up on that, and correctly suspected that a changeling was impersonating the man.

He doesn't have tastebuds, and the experiences which result from eating are apparently "messy" since he doesn't have internal organs either.

The only exception was during his brief time as a "solid", when he could and did eat/taste food & drink. Presumably more experienced changelings could mimic eating properly, the same way that (unlike Odo) they can mimic faces properly.

Odo did not suspect the Bashir-changeling. For the majority of Bashir's replacement Odo was a solid, but for at least the time between the end of "the Begotten" and the reveal in "By Inferno's Light" Odo was a changeling again and exposed to Bashir-changeling.

I remember it said that if a Founder takes on the form of a rock, then he'll show up as a rock on a scanner, rather than as a shape-shifting lifeform.

However, can a Founder so disguised be recognized by other Founders? If Odo walks into a room where Founder-Rock is hiding, would Odo be able to recognize the rock for what it is?

Isn't the simple answer that because of the Great Link, all changelings know each other on a subconscious, instinctive level? Would make sense to me -- but since Odo spent most of his formative years away from the Link, he didn't quite realize this instinct for what it was, but knew it was significant when he was dealing with the shapeshifter impersonating Admiral Leyton. -- RR
