I haven't been a regular poster at both places recently due to work committments (HOT or here) but I haven't seen any threads that diss Archer. Myst and Bucky are very good a clamping down at the first sign of trouble.
What I don't get is why either side is choosing to judge the other based on the extreme of the spectrum. Stuff at HoT and the LC shouldn't even be in this discussion. Don't go to a forum about a character you know you don't like, and we won't have these issues.
Personally, I could care less if the LC starts bashing Trip. I don't go over there, so it isn't going to bother me any.
How far are we taking this? Now, the stuff we bring up isn't even about this board.

Jenna, I couldn't agree more with you. What's discussed in other sites dedicated to specific characters has nothing to do with this forum.
Like you, I do not visit LC and could give a s*** if they bash Trip or not. I visited that site about a year ago out of curiosity and have not gone back simply because the material discussed on their forums holds no appeal for me.
However, since HOT was brought up, I'm always curious as to why A/T folks keep posting on the Trip/T'Pol section of that site when they hate the pairing so much. It makes absolutely no sense to me and I always view it as baiting.
Honestly, I think the other thing about tearing down another character is that it makes Enterprise less fun. For example, I was all excited and happy about spoilers for episode 8. When all the dissing of episode 8 happened, I began to feel a little the wind was sucked out. It's like -- can't I please have a little joy without hearing the harpies begin?
I don't mind there's a couch pulled out for the Archer hates from time-to-time (although it concerns me some people make it an obsession to hate a character ... seems like there's more productive things to do with your time). What I think bothers me is that there's a lot of spite and that's its on the heels of other nasty comments.
Blue and a few others don't like Archer. I've never tried to change their opinion. For the most part, she was respectful. That's really all I ask. It doesn't seem like a lot.

You know what Commodore the A/T crowd was up in arms when news of a possible Trip/T'Pol pairing was mentioned last summer before a single episode of season three had even aired. They were already blasting T/T and organizing a letter writing campaign that not only criticized two fictional characters but targeted Connor Trinneer as well.
Seems to me that there are a lot of people around here with very selective memories and a whole lot of hypocrisy.
I agree with you commodore64 that tearing down a character isn't fun. I guess it's known I'm not all happy with Archer but that has to do with my hopes for the character. I think SB is a good actor and I'd like to see some well written stuff for him next season.

I don't know who goes into the T/T section of HoT, and frankly, I don't care. That's another board. I have an account at HoT, but I only frequent the A*T section infrequently. The action figure pics are cute.
Some people who like T/T visit LC and post there. There are two people who like T/T at LC that I really like. They're very nice people. A few people who don't like A/T'P come by from time to time to say how they don't like A/T'P or whatever. I've seen that happen on 'shipper yahoo groups over the years, and don't let it bother me anymore. Besides, the super mods. at LC would swoop in to the rescue if either party gets out of hand.
LC has been brought up in a thread here before with people talking about something over there. I don't think either board should come up in discussion here for that sort of thing. If there is a problem, there are moderators at both boards. And complaining here won't get anything accomplished.

I agree. I don't like nasty comments about Archer et al. I've had to be
at them, then try to ignore them. I think criticism of characters is okay. But, saying really hateful things about a character makes me
sometimes. I've seen the same thing happen to Janeway, Chakotay, Seven, and other characters though. So, I try to shake it off. Then take a sip of my tea. Or listen to my yahoo radio.
That was a year ago. Actually, that was more than a year ago. And although the discussion was "I don't think that will work, I don't like it, why now, what are you doing" the discussion was never: Trip's a moron and isn't good enough for T'Pol anyway.

There was a letter writing campaign to promote Archer/T'Pol from the Logical Choice. The forum asked people to be positive about the information they discussed, promoting Archer and/or T'Pol, rather than dissing Trip/T'Pol.
Never ... never ever would I write to Paramount about how Connor Trinneer sucked. I don't think he does.
You may be thinking of another forum. By the way, there are *very* few people here from that other forum. I don't really hang out there partly because of this issue and how Trip was discussed. (Please read above comments to Pookha.)
I don't think you have the whole picture.
The people who hang out here: Angie, Janek, Indranee, Fenix, Shippy, Kal'En, Ancient One, Imzadi, Deanna Troi, me and maybe a few others I may've forgotten about, joined the Logical Choice because we like Star Trek and were committed to watch ... no matter how we felt about the Trip/T'Pol relationship or the Archer/T'Pol one for that matter.
I personally, and maybe my colleagues mentioned (they can speak for themselves), decided to somewhat distance ourselves from that other forum. I didn't like what a particular person was saying. I tried to respond to that person to ask them stop, as did others. When she didn't, I decided it was time to distance myself. I think that person has the best intentions, but I didn't like the way the actor, the character and Tuckerites were being treated or how they were discussed in the forum.
At the end of last summer, I made a promise to Zane and Bucky that I would try to put an end to the bickering. I meant it. I do try. I know the people mentioned above do as well.
Although you see a side to me, I care more about Star Trek than shipping. If that wasn't the case, I wouldn't be watching season 3. In fact, this is the first ship I've really ever cared about. As a kid, I wondered if Spock + [insert person here] would get together, but never actually *rooted* for them.
So -- I'm trying to above board. Are you?

I know that I wasn't even an A/T'P shipper until november of 2003 when I saw Twilight and doubled over in pain when I realised that T/T was going to be "on". okay, too dramatic

I used to be a closet T/T shipper (yes, believe me) since BB. I used to read Sue's fics and liked them. I thought T/T was okay and had some chemistry. in the beginning I kinda gave ENT a miss after watching BB and the first few eps. that was because (a) I was kinda pissed at the way B&B were handling the prequel idea (you know, no continuity, Vulcans seem to be a$$holes, no federation progress, etc etc, all the trek purist stuff
), and (b) constantly travelling for work and never got to watch some of the key A/T'P eps I later fell in love with.
I began to watch earnestly after seeing Cogenitor and then caught up on all the seasons before. and by the time Twilight hit me, I was a gonner and wrote my first ENT A/T'P fanfic.
I have ALWAYS liked Trip. he was in a way the character I felt we could all most identify with. he was the human connection on the ship much like McCoy was on TOS or O'Brien was on DS9. but I always thought what T/T had was, to me, less compelling -- especially once I watched the A/T'P dynamic. but that didn't mean I didn't like T/T. I still did. I was okay with it. but something happened along the way after I joined the BBS. the enormous animosity between the two shipper groups on this board really got to me. seriously, I was very taken aback at first when even comments with which I didn't mean to offend were treated as such. and then, as time went by, true to human nature -- I chose sides and "fought back".
anyway, the thing is, if you paint ALL of us with one brush (and I'm sure the A'Team <nods to Kal> is also guilty of this particular transgression) -- you get one whole mess of a canvas. most of us HERE are not guilty of that letter campaign. most of us came here with open minds and agog with excitement. and even the people who participated in the campaign -- I'd venture to guess that the ones who are here do not harbor any ill will toward T/T-ers or Trip or CT.

When you come on a board and there happens to be two sides of some sort of debate you'll end up choosing a side. In all likelyhood your opinion will be attacked in one way or another and you're forced to defend what you like thus reinforcing what you like even more.I came online looking for T/T related stuff. So for me it wasn't about being unsure, I knew what I liked from the start. I never even thought of A/T till I saw it here. However coming online effectively killed any chance that I could ever enjoy A/T. That is the nature of the shipper wars and I'm well aware of how it works.
Indranee..I seriously can't being to fathom how you ever liked T/T..you have such a passionate dislike for them lol

frankly the majority of time i dont care what goes on at lc or any other a/t boards.
i have even told people to stay away if visiting it makes them upset.
but then i dont like hot being singled out either..

the hot thread refered to was one were you insert archer into a movie title.. some of the funniest by the way were done by people who like archer.

). for me, it was the sheer vehemence of the hatred directed at me and my 'ship that turned me so very much AGAINST T/T -- that is what I was trying to say in that last post. meaning, but for this hatred between our camps, I may not have "hated" T/T so much. okay, I don't, really. but at times the negativity in the T/T-ers toward my ship affects my thinking about THEM (meaning both the T/T ship AND the T/T-ers), you know? I'm sorry.
I hope I was able to clarify my problem a little. not trying to offend anyone, just trying to explain. okay?

Like I said having been down this road before on different boards I very much get how it affects your opinion of a couple. Because you hate the things people of the other side say you therefore by extension begin to hate what they like..namely the other couple.
The internet boards totally affect the way you view a show and can often times destroy your enjoyment unfortunatly. I was once locked in a pretty intense shipper war and knew even before the outcome that if the couple I didn't like got together..that would be it for me and the show, and in the end it was. I "lost" so to speak and I wasn't about to stick around on the board or watch the show anymore. Had I never come online I'm positive that would've never happened.
Well...for what it's worth...I see no difference between Archerites and Tuckerites. I mingle with both groups rather freely and don't see any difference in moral terpitude or intelligence (although there are people in both groups who will insist their group has more class or civility). I think it's a pretty equal ratio between the two groups when it comes to the more 'rabid' fans and those that are just really into their ship (on occasions even they get a little uncivil without realizing it). Both groups have their "fringe" members (a rather small minority), both groups really believe (ie cling) to their views and both groups can get downright silly/mushy over their ship. In my view...there is little difference in action and word. In the end...it's just a bunch of women fightin' over two guys. (

Actually I visit HoT T/T section to see bandy's screen caps and I like some of the discussions. Alot of people over there don't post here. I don't always post but I do pm people when I like what they say.Commie and Kalen's comments about LC where I lurk mostly came from being harrassed here for comments posted at LC. I like to read the view from the other side so to speak which is why we enjoy debating with zane and quills so much---they don't preach at us or tell us we have no taste(how can they when we like them!). Trip will never be a fav of mine but he is a fav of many at LC and they also go to HoT because they like the character and there are alot of great people that post in the T/T thread.Not so strange really. I met A4T,bandybones, and wollem at a charity do and went to the board originally to support A4T's site not to bait or troll.

I agree. I registered and posted at the HoT because I like many of the Trip/T'Polers and because occasionally there's a thread or two I can participate in, such as the most recent Archer nickname thread (which was very amusing). I'm an Enterprise/Star Trek fan, not simply an Archer/T'Pol 'shipper, and 'shipping is by no means the only reason that I watch the show, therefore my intent in registering there is not to "bait" but to have fun with a group of people that I think are pretty cool. As Angie said, Bandy and Wollem's screencaps are pretty darned hillarious too.

I've said it before and I will say it again, I think there are more things we all have in common than divides us.
As for the women fighting... Don't forget some of the boys who can be quite convinced to say the least...
BTW 'shippy, I don't have a group hug graemlin but I have this one
