Calling All Shippers! Mediation Thread

Boy, I really hate to bring this thread back to the top again, but that's what it's here for right?

Each separate shipper thread has it's own way of doing things. Our personalities are different, no one is better or worse than another. Because of the differences in the individuals who post in each thread, the threads move at their own pace. T/T has a lot of people on at once typically, who enjoy posting back and forth and generally make the thread fun to read. It does sometimes get out of control, but jkladis and top41 are good about getting us back on track. They're moderators. That's what they're here for! (Yes, that's right... I'm using you for your power... :p )

Outside of the four moderators on this forum, I don't think it's appropriate for anyone to be censoring anyone else for "breaking the rules". I don't go into the A/T thread, so I don't know what kinds of conversations go on in there. I don't like being told I spam, when that is patently not the case if you view my posts without heavily biased shipper goggles. And even if I did, what business is it of anyone else's beisdes mine and the moderators? It just isn't.

Lighthearted banter injected into an otherwise deadly serious and tense thread is good. Only when it stops being about the topic at all is it spam.

I think my point is that I would really appreciate it if I stopped seeing posts to the effect "you guys suck because your thread goes faster than mine". I'm not saying the T/T people are innocent of this, I'm just saying I've seen it several times over the past few days and all it does is cause problems.

one reason why the t/t threads can move fast beyond the normal having fun stuff is that it seems to have new people popping into it all the time. often with questions and wanted opinions about certain things.

a paticular one with some bad history with it. and i thought it odd the moderators didnt at least make a comment on it.

Well. if things starts to turn nasty, I'm out. That has been my philosophy from the start and I'm sticking to it. It's too bad really, but I growled when I saw someone had posted a thread on ANISB... It's a really good way to get people worked up over here unfortunately...

Anyhoo, I still think it has calmed down after a few weeks of calamity earlier this summer... I just hope it stays calm... :D

I've only seen a few comments about spamming. I responded to one that I didn't like in the ANIS thread. I think people are talkative around here, and that's okay.

If I think I see spam, flamming, or other problems. I notify mod. I don't bring it up in a thread. I've only notified mod. a few times since I've been here about various things.

I know what you mean. I was trying to stay out of the ANIS thread. I've seen too many incarnations of that thread since I've been here.

I think it's improved, too. I watch myself more carefully now. And eventhough I don't have an ignore list, I just ignore certain posters and usually don't respond to them.

 That would work. I try to listen to my yahoo radio when posting here.

Sorry for the triple responses in a row.

If no one notifies them, sometimes they miss things.

I haven't been in that thread either. However, the comment Jenna was referring to wasn't in that thread, it was in the "Home" thread. It was obviously intended to rile people, and a mod did address the comment. :)

We do have different personalities I guess, and certainly different people in the same ship have different personalities. But, I hope to answer your post honestly and fairly. [And I hope it's both.]

Do I personally think that some of the T/T'Pers spam? Yes. But, I think it speaks to my personality, what spam is, and why I come here.

What do I think spam is? I think it's a post that adds absolutely nothing to the discussion other than to say, "I'm reading. I'm here."

This is just me, but when I come here (unlike at the commodore lounge), I want to read meaningful thoughtful posts. In a thread titled, Archer/T'Pol, the same criteria applies. I want to know what people are thinking and why, versus who's showing up. I especially value analyzing episodes and moments (even using literature to do so) because I want my mind to be challenged.

You're right -- mods warn people about spam. If you're [and I mean whomever, not you personally] not being warned, you're probably not doing anything wrong, according to the guidelines set here.

I think it's sweet that you said something about the T/T'P crowd, Jenna. My personal feeling is -- I don't care what T/T'P people think. I mean, I care about their interesting and thoughtful discussions about lots of things, but I don't care what they say/think about Archer (I've resigned myself to knowing much of it will be bad and they have their own issues on him), about me (except when they go all whacko and follow me from thread to thread or from board to board, or when it's someone I like and respect), about ANIS, etc. This doesn't mean I don't want to talk about these things, it means I've resigned myself to assume it's a difference of opinion and one we'll never see eye to eye on.

So, I don't care if whomever says it's sad I only post once a day or that the A/T'P thread only gets 12 posts per day. It really doesn't bother me. I have my own thoughts about why.

I can be more mindful of indicating that I'm glad the A/T'P thread isn't like that, if that will prevent your feelings from being hurt. I do care about hurt feelings and think you're a nice young lady who 99% of the time means well.

I think it's fine to be resigned to a difference of opinion. In fact, I think if more people would just accept that each 'ship group is happy with their thoughts and beliefs and stop trying to convince the other side they're wrong, this forum would be a lot more peaceful.

And I think it's horrible that you've been picked at for only posting occasionally, or that the A/T thread has been picked at for moving at a slower pace than the T/T thread. I haven't seen it, but I know that doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

My point is that in threads like the ANISB threads, where we already KNOW the people who like it and hate it (and often, all their reasons), it doesn't do any good to post things like "Oh, you only like it because you love Archer" or "Oh, you only hate it because you hate Archer". Even if that's what you're THINKING, it shows more maturity to keep it to yourself. Because all posting stuff like that does is piss people off. (And for the record, I'm NOT talking about you when I say "you").

Telling me that I spam is an awful lot like trolling. What do you expect me to say? Anything I say back will be off-topic. If there's a specific post you think is spam, notify a mod. I know for a fact that they don't have a problem stepping in and giving a general reminder to people. It usually works.

Maybe you're right. I sure like talking about episodes though. I think "discussing" it is best.

If you thought my earlier response indicated I said you were spamming, I apologize. I was saying "you" in the universal sense. I meant I feel as though T/T'Pers (and some non-T/T'P for that matter) occasionally spam the ENT board, not you specifically. I guess when I come to the ENT board, I'm expecting interesting discussion about episodes, characters, etc.

Absolutely contrary to that, I love see spam in the Commodore Lounge. I see that more as a place to hang out and talk with buddies and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. I could comment more on that, but I fear I've already dug a very deep hole for myself. Needless to say, everyone who posts there regularly are very enjoyable; I love to see what little tidbit they've added.

Nah, I wasn't talking about you. I was using "you" in a general sense. I don't even remember who said what originally. Doesn't really matter to me anyway.

while a lot of the above describes part of why i come here to have
serious disucussions not just about my favorite characters but the show
itself and trek in general i also want to have some fun to.

so i admit that i like to do fun things like my little caption stories.

are they serious charcter studies not really but they allow me
to recharge my mental batteries so i can break out
into a serious discussion.

look at some of the shipper threads..yeah there is silly fun fluff but there
have been some good discussions woven in out about
the character.

and i have peaked into the a/t just curious.. hmm i think off and on there
have been some fun captions in there too.

:)

i think every one just needs to chill out a little.
possibly keep the silly fluff under control in the general theads and keep on allowing the rage and ship threads places where people can have fun with stuff like captions or go off about some serious aspect of the character.

right now one of the threads i most like reading well looking at since there isnt a lot of reading to do is the bakula thread.
and i still want to be able to see a thread like that exist here because some times fun and have having a handsome guy to look at is a good thing.

1)jealous? hahaha, my friend, you take all this seriously. i suggest that you get out of your house right now, take a deep breath of fresh air, and come inside again and join us back here. it seems that all this trek stuffs have made your head unable to think properly. jealousy was not reason of me criticising T/T's people comments about the show, but irritated was. i want to ask you(generally T/Ts) a question. how many times you(generally T/Ts) feel that you should need to express your opinion about one certain thing. let me give you(generally T/Ts) an example:

first thread:

ANISB is so lame because Archer was potrayed as an idiot

2nd other thread:

ANISB is so lame because Archer was potrayed as an idiot

3rd other thread:

ANISB is so lame because Archer was potrayed as an idiot

and the list goes on...

i mean don't you all have any other criticism? expressing your(generally T/Ts) criticism like this makes me think that you just don't like that show because it was focused on Archer, especially because there was a moment of near romanticism between him and T'pol. Please, don't let your(generally T/Ts) fanatism to the character "Trip" prevents the expression of healthy criticisms. Hey, i even have nothing against shows with heavy Tripitism romance.

2)You(generally) don't spam? What a bunch bull..sorry..weak denials...Ladies and gents(heck, everyone), just check your(generally T/Ts) thread. Hundreds of spams, especially the pictures of T/T in the shower. hahaha, not that i mind because generally A/T's people also did the same, just not to that extend. yes, please, deny more, but remember that the evidence is out there...and reachable...

Sorry if I sound a little rough but I am a bit irritated. Not because of the storyline of the show or jealousy but in fact that many of T/T's people like to accuse us A/T's people of these things when in fact we're just irritated and defending our opinions...

^ I think everyone is pretty "chill" pookah, unless I'm misreading Jenna. She seems pretty darned laid back.

I thought she had a great point and something worthy discussion. I hoped of the peaceful variety.

And yes, the A/T'P side has silly stuff, but even then there's something to discuss other than "hi, I'm here."

really commodore..
ALofEnterprise dosnt sound so chill.

let's see. i feel i have a right to express an opinion just like some others express nearly the same opinion of why they like anis especially if there are new people in the
thread who havent heard it before.

and it appears you havent even read to read any of them
if if you think the big problem i have with it is the
archer /tpol stuff.

and obviously you are unaware i am big archer fan.
i have gone in and defended him in a lot of threads when none of the usual a/t crowd were around to do so.

i look at anis from the perspective as someone who really liked archer and hated trying to win back some friends into liking the character again after anis.

they started out handling archer so well in the first several episodes of the second season and then anis with the blown second contact and mauraders were it didnt occur to archer that the next time the klingons might just attack with greater numbers later in mauraders.

actually i have spent a lot of time and effort to defend archer's later actions back on the ship.\
it is the stuff that went down on the planet i have a problem with.

I'd agree with that. *Discussion* is good.

I dunno. I'm not sure what specifically your problem is with them. Seems like it varies. I'm just saying, I've resigned myself to people feeling a particular way that I personally disagree with.

I never said you didn't.

i should have been more specific that after the initial part i was replying to ALofEnterprise..
sorry about that.
