Call of Duty: Black Ops

Damn, up all late, 5am, unlock doesn't come till 7am though... I almost feel like just staying up... almost.

It's just Treyarch Yoda... go to sleep....

I'm sure there is more than one ad for the game, the one I saw was playing Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones I believe.

Played a couple of rounds... could feel 'that treyarch stink' all over it. Dedicated servers are great... but you can feel the engine is nowhere near as refined as IW4. It looks worse. The way the care packages just kind of fall straight down and plop into place seems comically bad... I really wish there was some more technology sharing between the CoD studios because the Treyarch engine guys are clearly B-squad.

From what I played of it, sounds like Activision slipped AAA-grade c-notes into reviewers pockets, maybe I'll pop into the single player for a bit.

It's just taken me 6 hours to do the campaign. It was a hell of a lot of fun. Can't wait to do it all again on Veteran.

I'm only two missions in so far, but I'm loving the way Treyarch decided to present the story. I thought it'd be weird playing a character with a face and a voice, but it actually makes the whole thing even better.

The story, while a tad predictable, is brilliantly executed. I was gripped throughout, although I guessed what was going on just over halfway through the game. Still, my current feeling is that it's the best story so far in the CoD franchise. I want to do another playthrough before I set that in stone, though, just to be sure.

Well, made L24 by Tuesday night in MP. Hard Core looks like the way to go. Ghost looks like the key perk. Famas and AK74U look like key guns so far...

Is the leveling up process keeping you motivated? I've heard people complain about the fact that they basically felt set after reaching level 20 and didn't have any stuff left to look forward to.

Am just now past the prison break "mission".

So far it's ok.. same style as with MW2, i.e. nonstop action, many explosions and even a small race part (though liked the snowmobiles from MW2 a bit better). It didn't reinvent the wheel but nonetheless it's a good action shooter with a retro feel.

I'm no MP guy so won't test that though (that's for the young kids :p) but my initial impression is good.. not MW2 good so far (nothing beats the Favela or the lead up and execution of the prisoner missions from MW2) but it's a very decent game and sure to sell lots of games.

I'm L12 at the moment. Have played 3 games of TD, and 7 games of Sabotge. My current loadout is the M16/Red Dot, M1911 Pistol, Frag, Wiley Pete, Claymore, Scavenger, Hardened, Ninja.

Levelling up has never been a big motivator for me. Killing people and completing objectives is. Plus, me and my friends have a private competition going on between us to see who has the best K/D ratio. I don't unlock Combat Record until my next level, so I'm not sure what it stands at currently, but I haven't had a game where I've been in the minuses on kills yet, so it should be decent.

BTW, last time I was on, the player counter said there were 3,000,424 playing online. Over 3 million, and that's just on XBL. Impressive.

Yeah, nothing like a little healthy competition between buddies to keep you on your toes :techman:

I hit 10th Prestige on WaW, but only got to 7th Prestige on MW2. That's mostly due to me not bothering with challenges too much. I have friends who constantly change weapons and equipment to complete as many challenges as possible. Personally, I change things around until I find a loadout that works for me, then I stick with it. K/D and winning games is more important to me that rank and levels.

Game doesn't seem to have a toggle for mouse smoothing. Seems to just be on full-time. A nice waste of a quality gaming mouse right there with that setting.

Played a wager match, sticks and stones. Was kind of fun. But.. apparently if you hatchet someone they lose all their points, pretty much sucking the skill out of the game since it's really not that hard to hatchet compared to the exploding arrows and the various knives they gives you. I 'lost' having over twice as many kills as my opponents. Real nice Treyarch, add random bullshit to the gambling mode...

Overall still pretty disappointed with the package, it feels like a step back from even COD4.
