Californians (and people who know people in CA)

Just wanted to do a quick update and let everyone know that one of our very own TBBSers and his wife have graciously decided to give this kitty a home. Even if he can't adjust to being an indoor only cat, there are other long-term solutions that are possible. I'll be relocating him hopefully in the next week or two. I love our community here at TBBS and how so many people have big hearts. Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions, support, and help. And special thanks to the couple willing to care for him. You're amazing. :)

Awesome. Congrats on your search being a success, Kes. I admire you for what you did.

I'm glad you found him a home. Sadly, I just lost one of my cats a few days ago. Hit by a car. Very sad.

My condolences. I've had more than a few cats and even kittens die during the course of my life. It's never easy losing a pet in such a random and senseless manner.

my commiserations, Jimi James :( I've never had cats but I had plenty of dogs, pet rats and hamsters over the course of half a century. It always hurts when they pass away and it hurts even more if it happens in so sudden and violent a way as an accident, without you having had a chance to say goodbye :(

Congrats to Kestra. I hope the little chap will like his new home :)

Glad to hear the cat found a home! :)

I felt especially bad because I am in the area but taking a new cat wouldn't be feasible. So I was really hoping someone would be able to!

Thanks.

We live in the country and all our cats are outside pets, so it's not such a shock when one of them dies, or even simply vanishes without a trace; usually to some larger predator. I don't mean to sound harsh or uncaring because that's far from the case, but after a while you simply realize that in such an environment accidents tend to be more common and that pets simply don't last long.
It's still sad of course when you lose one and you just have to hope the others have better luck.

In my experience the large predator problem depends on the individual. I once had a hamster who attacked a cat so fiercely that it needed to be patched up by the vet.
And my grandma's fox used to drive the neighbour's bloodhound into complete exhaustion by letting the dog run up to him and then simply step aside, torero-style. The fox did this every morning, apparently as a kind of callisthenics, and then returned to our garden grinning like the Cheshire cat.
I've also heard of a case where a hare attacked a hound dog so fiercely in order to defend her babies that the dog developed a lifelong fear of hare-like rodents and couldn't be used for hunting anymore. He made an excellent watchdog, though. Propably thanks to the fact that only few burglars bring rabbits :D
