Somehow, the CBS logo on a Star Trek book looks out of place. Whenever I looked at it, I thought, "I want that mountain back!"
Nevertheless, the quality of Burning Dreams is in no way affected by the logo change. Indeed, the book is, as I have repeatedly said in other places, most excellent.

CBS has the right to put their logo where they want, but I don't think Trek books are the place to do it. I'm not buying any more novels because of this.
Just arrived yesterday. I'm enjoying it so far.
Is the book out already?! I thought only the people that went to Shoreleave were able to get a copy this early. If so, I'll pick myself a copy up today.
Edit: I just checked my bookstore's website and there are no copyies out in the city yet. I'll keep an eye open now though. Has anyone seen any of the paperback re-releases coming out?

I actually got an email from amazon saying that it would be shipping out earlier than expected.
Just got mine from amazon today....although it left Allentown, PA seven days ago. 
I'm starting it tomorrow...honey-do list has to be completed today...

What I've read of Burning Dreams is simply fab. It is, quite simply, the Star Trek novel for people who don't read Star Trek novels, which means it's even better for those of us who do. 
There's a whole Martian Chronicles-meets-Heinlein-juvey groove to the opening chapters, and I'm liking it a lot.

went to my local bookstore today, they didn't have it. Put a hold on one-- not that I needed to, I seem to be the only one that buys trek books there.Is this the FIRST novel to have the CBS logo on it instead? And this is a permanent change?
^^Yeah, I gather it's the first with the CBS logo. And I figure it's permanent until the next corporate merger, shakeup, buyout or whatever happens.
And Burning Dreams is certainly a good book, but it's kinda hard on the timeliners among us.... Margaret's storytelling style is, to coin a phrase, not linear.
Although I'm glad that the book is fully compatible with the Early Voyages comics. I'd feared it would contradict them, but there are no discontinuities between them as far as I can tell. Which is lucky, since I gather Margaret hadn't read the comics. However, there is one comic story the book is incompatible with: "Door in the Cage," issue 61 of DC's second TOS series. Although explaining why would be a spoiler.

FWIW, SNW 9, though not a novel, also has The Eye on it.

I have the last timeline that was put out in book 7 of the Gateways series and I was wondering if this is going to be the same format followed with VOTI. I understand that VOTI is also going to include the cover art of the books but will there also be a bit of a blurb for each novel giving its basic premise?Geoff said:

The basic layout of the new revision will be radically different (and, I trust, much easier to read) than what was printed in What Lay Beyond. Additionally, in this revision we have placed any and all "sub-entries" for a given story (i.e., flashbacks, backstories, time-travel, etc.) in their proper chronological locations, and have included many more explanatory annotations (now in the form of footnotes).
My understanding is that each novel will have its own page, including a cover image, a brief synopsis of the story, and whatever "inside" information Jeff was able to discover from the writers and/or editors.

Well, it's a wonderful feature if one is going to read the timeline as a future history lesson. But if one is trying to chronologically anchor the novel that one is holding in one's trembling hands...
Is there any possibility of for example accompanying each main entry for a novel or short story with something like "See also May 1st, 2151; SD 3467.1; SD 45921.3"?

But which one did you count as the "base" timeframe? I.e. if one were ordering/shelving the books in chronological order, or as close as possible, where would this one most logically go? My choice was
the post-"Menagerie" setting, because Pike telling Vina his life story after Spock beamed him down was the frame for most of the flashbacks. The 2320 Spock portions are the main exception to that.
