Re: Burn Notice: "Lesser Evil" 3/5 - Grading & Discussion - SEASON FIN

Just saw this thread after I posted a thread about the show in general; d'oh!

Loved the finalé; his mom has moxie! Loved that big Buick convertible, too .

I just got into this show in the back half of this season, and had to go back to see the first season on DVD. I still have to catch up on the rest of this season, but at least the way it's structured, it's not as necessary to see everything in order to enjoy each episode. Shanks was good; I missed his previous appearances, but I learned enough in this ep to be able to appreciate his turnaround. I agree - it'll be interesting to see where the 3rd season goes, without the spectre of 'who burned me' constantly over his head.

Funny thing watching it last night: only the night before, I watched them ignite a cloud of non-dairy creamer on Mythbusters!

I'll miss Carla, I would have liked to find out more about this character.

I love Fiona's comment after she shot Carla
"Finally"

I really didn't care for Carla. She was so dull. I never got into her character at all. I was SO glad when Fi killed her and we got JOHN MAHONEY to replace her. w00t!!!!

On the other hand, I LOVED Victor - Michael Shanks got on my nerves more than anything on Stargate, so it's been delightful to see him play a completely different character. I hated to see his character depart, though they chose a compelling method for it, at least. :)

I said the same thing at the same time

Carla was just a cartoon evil person who needed to die 5 episodes ago, I like when the bad guys die, it's fun, as is this show.:techman:

Excellent show this week, kind of didn't think he go for the swim though.

If anyone cares, the season three replacement for Tricia Helfer as hottie nemesis is going to be... Jennifer Esposito. Though she'll actually be a good guy. But a thorn in his side.

From Spin City? She's hot.

Re: Burn Notice: "Lesser Evil" 3/5 - Grading & Discussion - SEASON FIN

I've never seen an episode of this series before this one--I caught it for free on demand during spring break last week--but I can't say I cared for it at all. The lead doesn't have any chemistry at all (I felt he was equally uncharasmatic in his guest appearance on Monk) which significantly undermines the character for me. I didn't think Michael Shanks was particularly good, either--there were some witty lines, but they were never delivered with conviction. Even Bruce Campbell, who I usually love in anything (we're talking The Man With The Screaming Brain here) seemed to be collecting a paycheck and sleepwalking.

It doesn't help that I wandered into this midstream, but killing of Carla and Victor struck me as a cop out more than anything else. Everything is more or less re-set in the whole situation; on to next season.

Anyway, I thought I'd try to justify rating it "below average," rather than just drop the grade on everbody. I hate it when other posters do that. The whole thing just struck me as too shallow and flashy for its own good. I'm glad other people can enjoy it. But it's obviously not my thing. Anyhow...

I finally got around to watching this ep a couple of day ago. I gotta say I absolutely loved it. Shanks was totally awesome on this show. Too bad he's gone though.

The problem with Carla being so dull is only because they didn't explore her, IMO. She was dull because they never gave her anything to do besides be a voice on the phone scolding Michael. She could have been a super spy nemesis on his level just like the old girlfriend that showed up was.
