Building the Eaglemoss Enterprise-D partwork

And here I am, having completed the build up to issue 16, i.e. more than half, and I find myself having second thoughts about reactivating. Am I over this thing?

I suppose I'm posting this because I want you guys to convince me to take the plunge once again. But somehow, after all this time, it kinda feels like throwing good money after bad - although of course it makes even less sense to have a half-completed model taking up space in a huge box in the basement... Hm.

You have the luxury of time to consider your options. There is no set end date for your re-subscription, or deadline for registration. You may wish to monitor this thread and observe the updates of others before making a decision - we could all inspire you to aspire for your enterprise. However, I must assert that there is a compelling reason to commence construction promptly: the possibility of subscription issues or availability in the future. It is preferable to build now while the opportunity exists, rather than waiting for a time when the subscription may be terminated or discontinued, rendering completion impossible.

Personally, I would opt for a fully functional Enterprise in my basement, rather than an incomplete model gathering dust in a box.

I would suggest, continue to collect all the parts even if you don't assemble them. The bug may bite you again someday and you'd have what you need to continue building.

That happened to me just this past week. After almost a year of not building anything, I suddenly caught the bug again and worked on an old USS Reliant kit to near completion.

If the bug never bites you to continue, at least you will have a complete set to pass on or sell to me. lol I mean, even if only partially assembled, it is more valuable as a complete set.

I have just bought two extra binders off eBay. I am ensuring that I have suitable storage for the magazines, I do not want any of them flapping around loose. If I end up not needing them I will happily pass them on to someone who does. Always be prepared. :techman:

Anyone else being bombarded with emails from the company saying time’s running out to resubscribe, even though I’ve an order number?

Just annoying mail marketing or should I reach out to them?

Yeah, me too. Targeted directly at my FOMO, my achilles heel, which is why I caved and made the pre-order. Probably just marketing, but as @Timofnine and @shapeshifter so sensibly pointed out above, probably better to have the parts now and then consider if and when to continue the build rather than to not have them and always be left with a half-finished ruin of a model in the basement.

I guess once the first shipment arrives, the bug will bite me again. The model IS after all super cool, still.

Anyone started receiving their kits yet? Restarted the subscription what feels like an age ago and nothing. Keep seeing adverts for the part work on Instagram though.

Parts start shipping from July in the UK and US. I *think* it was aimed to be from around the 16th/17th.

I am truly, sincerely, happy for you (and all the other folks out there) that you're going to be able to continue, AND FINISH, your build. Congratulations, please post pictures of your progress when you can.

I got SEVERLY burned by the EagleMoss collapse, having a 50% complete James Bond DB5 just sitting in a box after shelling out hundreds and hundreds of dollars on it. I'm glad your getting to finish, can't wait for more build pics!

Ok I'm going to ask a silly question. What details do I provide to tell them where I want to restart from ? Do I provide the part number or the magazine number ?

You tell them the magazine number that you wish to start from. I am not sure if there was a cut off date for doing this though?

In other news, my magazine 21 and parts 79-82 arrived today! After all this time I never thought that I would be completing this thing! Expect updates on model build progress, any construction issues and their resolutions next week. :techman:

That's amazing news, Tim. I recall how gutted you were when everything went belly up and to be receiving parts again must be a fantastic feeling.

Issue 16 arrived with me on Monday. So happy to be cracking on with this again!

Well, I have made my first blunder… can anyone spot the not so deliberate mistake? :wah:

Now I have a dilemma, do I leave the escape pod as it is, or risk damaging the model to flip it the right way around? I’m tempted just to leave it how it is….

Do you have an Xacto knife with a fresh blade? Might be able to squeeze it in between the pod and hull plate to pop it out. That would be my approach.

The problem is that I need to take two panels off to correct this. Below the upside down escape pod is a screw cover escape pod, I would need to take the panel with the mistake off and the one next to it as they all kind of clip together and the pods slot in from behind. Ah well, I may just leave it… :guffaw:
