Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel - First Time Viewer

Speaking of Cordy - Happy Fourth!

I finally watched the Youtube Entertainment Weekly Angel reunion and it was pretty good. That entire cast is aging like fine wine, especially Carpenter, Denisof, and Acker. I wish they had given a little tribute to Quinn and Hallett though. They touched on Quinn a few times, but I'm surprised there was nothing about Andy, considering how big of a character Lorne got as the series went on. Still, it was a ton of fun to visit, especially after having seen the series for the first time. Also, that finale really was quite good.

I'm not sure when I will get to it (Either soon, even though I am working on Stranger Things Season 3, or after I get back from Vegas) but would anyone care about my thoughts on Dollhouse if I continued this thread for that series? I really don't need to but it is a series I'm actually looking forward to watching, considering one of my favorite actresses from Buffy is the lead role.

Don't forget that Amy Acker also has a role on Dollhouse. I vote for starting a new thread for Dollhouse.

I did not know that. I probably should have because Mutant Enemy keeps getting the same actors/actresses for various roles, but I am excited to see Acker in something else.

I would love for you to do Dollhouse. Slow going at first, but it sticks the landing in my opinion.

I’m curious, what episode does Dollhouse get good because I’m on episode 8 and I still find it boring. Maybe it’s just not my thing.

For me, it was OK until the last season 1 episode "Epitaph One." Then once they hit Season 2 Episode 5, we're off to the races until the end.

That was good except for a few issues, namely the narrator getting basic facts wrong (Dawn introduced in Season 4, when it was season 5, and Buffy being a 6 season show when it was really Seven). I wouldn't mind if this was a blog post or anything, but when you're doing a presentation like this where you can edit things, to leave those unchecked was not good. Also, I wish they had talked about Faith a little bit. Dushku being completely ignored in this was odd.

Also, is Michelle Trachtenberg a goth? Man she has really changed. I know she's 15 years older at the time of this reunion, but still.

I think I decided to not make a thread about Dollhouse for one reason. It's a short series and Dollhouse strikes me as a series like Space: Above and Beyond. It was liked when it was on, but it's not really on people's minds and I don't know if making a new thread about it is worth it. Also, I will probably not talk about every episode, but some quick thoughts intermittently.

With that said, I watched the first two episodes last night. What struck me about the series so far is I'm not sure if this series would be a right fit in today's sensitive media. What I see in a show like this are women being used as tools, or slaves, to do the bidding of higher ups. Now this could be interesting if Echo realizes what is going on and starts an uprising, and I'm interested in the show doing that, but right now the lead character really isn't a "character" in a sense. Each episode is a new personality, so we don't really get to know Echo as a person. While I did see some comparisons to Orphan Black, what struck me about OB was the clones did kinda have free will. Yeah they were drugged and watched, but Alison was still able to raise a family. Sarah was still able to do what she wanted, and Cosima was still a college student. These characters had lives as those characters, as much wrong as it was with Dyad on their case. Echo doesn't have such a life. I think it will be interesting if the show is able to have a through line where we do get to know who Echo was before the Dollhouse and how she got there. I think the second episode started that path which I liked.
