Bruce Willis confirms Die Hard 5

I'd see a fifth film, if it was R-rated. John McClane has a dirty mouth, and not just in the signature line. Take a shot every time he says "fuck" in the first movie and see how many minutes it takes you before you have to go to the hospital. The fourth movie neutered the hell out of that (I haven't seen the unrated version).

You'd be unconscious before the terrorists fire their first shot at the party.

I quite liked 4.0 (despite the lousy title) and it's better than 2 (Die Harder always seemed too much of an in-joke.) But Die Hard with a Vengence is still the second best film , 4.0 has a better ending, but Vengence has a better overall plot and, most importantly, a damn fine villain.

The original is still the best by a country mile though, and will remain probably the best action film ever made, IMO of course. The big difference between DH and 4.0 is one of believability. I'm not saying Die Hard was the most realistic film ever made, but seriously, pretty much everything McClane does is at least plausible. He isn't superman, he gets banged up something terrible and basically wins through by a combination of luck and stubborness.

Compare that to standing on a hovering F-35...

4.0 was a good action film without ever feeling like a Die Hard film.

If they make a 5th film I'd want the following...

* Bring back the swearing!
* Bring back Bonnie B, even if only in a cameo, even in the third still she was still a vital part of McClane's story.
* Bring back the claustrophobia. It was a wise move to go to a city in Vengence, but after the US under seige in 4.0 does anyone really want to see the entire planet get taken over by terrorists? Hell I'd be almost tempted to set it back in Nakatomi Plaza.
* Take more care with your villain. I like Olyphant and William Sadler, but neither had the scene chewing wonderfulness of Rickman or Irons.
*Cut out the cgi aeroplane dancing nonsense!

I doubt we'll get any of those fulfilled though unfortunately.

I thought 4 was fantastic, but I've only seen the unrated version. What's the worst that could happen if they make a 5th one? I don't like it?

You know, I don't even care about the swearing or the violence that much. I just want them to make McClane a normal joe again. Less destroying a helicopter with car-fu and more desperately trying to find a pair of shoes.

Oh yeahhh! I forgot about that. I don't recall the line right now, or what the "original" one was but I remember being disappointed and even considered getting the rated edition just to have that line back.

If memory serves, it's after McClane destroys the helicopter by ramming it with a car from the tunnel. Justin Long's character says, "You just killed a helicopter with a car!" In the theatrical cut, McClane replies, "I was out of bullets." In the unrated version, he says something like, "Thousands of people die in car accidents every year. That was four more."

That's it! Man, that line awesome and pure awesome. Why on earth they decided to change that line is beyond me.

I'd have to agree. The villain makes the Die Hard movie, which is why 1 and 3 are the best and 2 and 4 are only OK.

I liked 2, but yeah, it's not as good as 1 and 3, because of the villians. 4 doesn't quite feel like Die Hard. It's fine, but not quite there.

+ like, a zillion.

I can't believe people like DH4. It was horrible! He surfed on a fucking F-35! It's just too much and too stupid even for an action movie.

Not to mention the fact the F-35 attacked while in hover mode. People don't seem to understand VTOL means Vertical Take Off and Landing, not Vertical Hover Around Killing Everything (VHAKE).

The sad part is the scene I find most out of place is when John flies the helicopter. John hated technology and was an absurdly bad operator of machinery like automobiles. How could he get a pilot's license, on a cop's salary no less!

Yeah, because the Die Hard films are otherwise well known for their accurate and honest adherence to reality.

This is an action flick where the same guy has been at the heart of no less than 5 major terrorists incidents in his lifetime survived them all despite being beaten, shot, stabbed, smashed, thrown off buildings and a plethoria of other things.

Quibbling over an airplane doing an impossible stunt is more important though. :D

I'd make it more structured as well. I think the scope of 4.0 was way too large for Die Hard and while I think it was an above-average action movie, it didn't feel like Die Hard.

What I'd want to see is John McClane appearing as a terrorism expert at some kind of conference coming up with a worldwide plan to combat terrorism so they're speaking with those who have experience in it. Now logically it sounds like the UN and we get terrorists taking it over and holding everyone hostage and then executing world leaders or at least ambassadors while McClane is the only one who can fight them when he was inside to testify.

The crazier version would be somewhat of a similar thing with a world conference on terrorism, but it not taking place at the UN, but rather a G20 type summit thing in Dubai at the Burj Khalifa skyscraper which is something like 2700+ feet tall and the tallest building in the world. I like the idea of returning to the roots of the original movie, but putting McClane in one of the coolest skyscrapers in the world.

Plus in this scenario you can wind up with the heads of nations held hostage in a G20 summit. Then to appeal to the sensibilities of politically correct Hollywood you'd have non-Arabs be the terrorists and McClane being aided by an Arab.

I liked the 4th one though it was the weakest in the franchise. I'm all for a 5th one. Hopefully it'll be better than the 4th.

^ If they did the Die Hard 24/7 movie that was proposed, do you think they'd re-do 4.0, to insert David Palmer, Charles Logan etc into the scene where the villains use archive footage of Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon etc to announce their plans?!

I know it's an action movie but FH4 was too much even for an action film. At times it was just almost sic-fi!

Terrorists take over the first habitable moon colony and only John McClane can stop them!

That's actually a good idea, like how in SWAT 4 Sonny Bonds was a SWAT officer. Made sense considering he'd been on traffic cop duty since Police Quest 1 in 1987.

And it might help pay the MASSIVE debt that over extravagant Burj Khalifa building accumulated.

1 is one of the defining action movies of all times

2+3 were decent action movies

4 was just an abomination, blockbuster by the numbers, huge SFX snoozefest with a laughable villain

If they continue with the theme of the 4th movie and make it a Michael Bay reject movie i'm out of it.. won't even see it in the cinema.
