I really want them to make another great Die Hard movie to make up for the last one. 4.0 is by no means bad, it's just not on a par with the others, especially not the first and not even Die Harder, the previously weakest entry in the series.
They definitely need to make it an R/ 18s and get in a top-class director. If McTiernan is out of prison, I'd like to see him come back - he's made the two best movies in the series. I remember watching 4.0 and thinking it would be sooo much better if he was making it (Wiseman ballsed up a pretty good script and series of action sequences). Let McClane swear and cuss like McClane, not act like he's Ned Flanders.
No comedy sidekicks (excepting Sam Jackson), no parcourt, no 'executing stage 5!' dialogue (how could McTiernan make opening a vault seem so much more exciting than bringing down the USA's defences ever seemed?) and give us a Rickman-class villain. Oh, and give John back his receding hairline!

Die Hard 4 was decent, I liked it. But it was neutered by the PG-13 rating and the annoyence built into the Mac Guy character. I also think the "grand" plot/threat was just too much. McClane fighting terrorists in a building, airport and in a city all fine and good. The global cyber-terrorism plot in 4 was just too broad and dumb.
Make it a decent plot go smaller, hell, go back to it being just in a building and, dammit, make it Rated-R!

I thought Die Hard 4 was fantastic and it seemed to have gotten a very good response from critics & movie goers so the news of a 5th one is not a shock. They should make this one the final one so that leads the question...

Die Hard V: So Very Tired.
Count me in the camp that really liked Die Hard 4. These type movies typically have a few "that isn't possible moments" the only one I really took issue with was the fighter jet sequence. The rest I think falls in line with McClaine-esque sequences in the other 3 films.
What do the proponets of "R" think they missed in part 4? It's not like the other 3 films were gory? All you missed were a few "fucks" flying out of John's mouth.

Considering the series trademark line is "Yippee ki yay, motherfucker," the censorship of the line is rather jarring. Though, for the record, I'm one of the one that liked Die Hard 4. The unrated cut on the DVD alleviates the tones down profanity and violence, but also removes one of the best lines in the movie for one that's not so good.

I'd have to agree. The villain makes the Die Hard movie, which is why 1 and 3 are the best and 2 and 4 are only OK.
Something tells me if 24 wasn't so bloody successful we wouldn't have Die Hard 4 or 5. Remember the 2nd one, when he kept joking "How could this happen to the same guy TWICE?" The third one made more sense because John was targeted as a result of his actions in the first film, because Hans' brother wanted Vengeance. The plot of the fourth made little sense. What are the odds the guy who always accidentally fighting terrorists is the officer they call to check on that hacker, seconds before he blows himself away?
Also, why didn't they just remote trigger the bombs... not like there would be ANY evidence left. Bullets leave lots of evidence, don't you think?

Die Hard V: Still Dying.
I like all of them to varying degrees. IMO the first was the best, followed by the third, the fourth then the second. I don't know why I liked the second less but it just felt off to me.
Whatever the fifth movie does I hope it's closer to the original roots of the series.

They should run with that title or at least use the line in the film
Die Hard 4 was an average action movie, boosted by having a memorable character.
I suspect a fifth film could be good, but then my expectations aren't that high.
I'm much more excited about the 24 movie. I read some time ago there was a script being considered that would have brought The two franchises together, but it was wisely turned down by the 24 people, wanting their own film. It may have been a rumor, I don't remember.

Not to mention the fact the F-35 attacked while in hover mode. People don't seem to understand VTOL means Vertical Take Off and Landing, not Vertical Hover Around Killing Everything (VHAKE).
The sad part is the scene I find most out of place is when John flies the helicopter. John hated technology and was an absurdly bad operator of machinery like automobiles. How could he get a pilot's license, on a cop's salary no less!
It being PG-13 just "softened" the look and vibe of the show. The action/blood didn't suffer that much but I think the language certainly did. Esp. with the trademark line. These are action movies for adults, how about we treat the audience as adults and allow them to experience some fucks and some red karo syrup. We're big boys, we can handle it.
Oh yeahhh! I forgot about that. I don't recall the line right now, or what the "original" one was but I remember being disappointed and even considered getting the rated edition just to have that line back. I also thought the dubbing/editing of the "Unrated" version was odd and it just looked like pretty much like the opposite of what you get when a movie is edited for broadcast TV.
I'll hold out hopes that the fifth one will return to the franchise's true form, but after that crapfest of a fourth movie, my hopes won't be too high. Seriously, I thought the second one would always be the worst - boy was I wrong.
Then again, I doubt anything they offer could ever pass the first one. It's not just the best in the series, it's the best action film EVER!
