Brian Brophy didn’t return?

Both Carolyn Munsters had more time without anyone noticing. Besides, that was probably one of Grandpapa's experiments trying to fix her sour looks.

Nitpick: You mean "Marilyn" Munster. And there were actually three Marilyns back in the day, if you count Debbie Watson in the feature film, MUNSTERS GO HOME, opposite the rest of the original cast.

Speaking of which, I'll cop to being disappointed as a kid that the 1966 BATMAN movie didn't feature the "real" Catwoman, aka Julie Newmar, instead of Lee Meriwether, but we're talking Catwoman here, not "Bruce Maddox." Newmar as Catwoman was an icon, Brophy as Maddox . . . not so much.

Plus, I was six and that was possibly the first time I'd ever seen a favorite TV character recast. I'm a lot more used to it now. :)

I understand you fine. I just don't care about Maddox being recast. I'm not sure what is hard to understand about that.
I was trying to be nice, but no you really don't. By what you wrote, you suggested that you have Guinan-like powers so that in the alternate universe where Brophy played the part, you'd have preferred he hadn't. Oh yeah? You would have seen the episode and been like, yeah, I'm totally glad they brought Maddox back, but, man, I would have cast John Ales in the part. That's why you're petty.
Guys, like I already said, Brophy's biggest role in the last ten years was "Unnamed Crime Scene Photographer". Between this and the fact he has a full time job, If I had been a casting director, I wouldn't have even considered him.
And you would have been remiss not to bring in him for an audition to see if he could have played it. It doesn't matter what or when his last part was. There are a world of reasons he might not be as active today, yet could have played the part.
I agree. I would understand people being upset if say Hugh had been recast. His impact on TNG and the meaning behind his appearance resonated a lot more. At the same time where do people draw the line on recastings? If STP features the Bringloidi next season, would people be shitty if the woman Riker was constantly trying to hit on was recast?
What's the part she's playing? Why wouldn't you look at the original access? Are you suggesting that they recast the Bingloidi because older women can't be attractive and they should make that character 23 for 67 year old Frakes? Oh you're not? Then why not take a look at the original actress before you make any decisions?
What were Frakes's, Sirtis's, Spiner's, and Del Arco's biggest roles in the last 10 years?

Are you serious? This isn't even remotely the same considering Frakes, Sirtis and Spiner played there roles in 170 episodes and 4 movies. Frakes has been directing films and television, Sirtis and Spiner have both had regular recurring and guest spot on tv series and engaged in voice acting. Del Arco had recurring roles on the Closer and Major Crimes and Nip/Tuck. They haven't been reduced to roles like 'extra' in the waterboy and 'crime scene photographer' in NCIS.
Well fuck Frakes, Sirtis, and Spiner by your logic. The first two aren't in Starfleet shape (probably only saved in PIC by their characters being retired) and the third one looks nothing like how he did when his character died twenty years ago. They're just not camera ready. Frakes didn't even think he could act anymore. Oh you like them? Boo-hoo, kid. This is Hollywood, and they've got a story to tell, salaries they can cut, and sexier new actors they can cast. It's just a TV show, and these things happen. It's what's better for the story.

Wow, this thread. Such an overreaction to an everyday Hollywood process. I mean, yes, it would have been cool if they had gotten Brian Brophy back, but they didn't and that's alright too. Seriously much better things to get worked up over.
I think the reaction is more to trolls on the internet telling people what they should and shouldn't care about, when they themselves have their own personal cares and preferences, and being apologists for the status quo in Hollywood. It isn't rocket science to think, huh, maybe we should give first crack at the actor who played the part in a series that exists because actors came back to play the part.

Even if Brophy were a passionate Trek fan, why in the world would he think he'd be appearing in Picard just due to one episode he did 30 years ago? He had no more idea of the plot than any of us did at the time. Calling his agent would be absurd when even TNG main cast members were saying they didn't know anything about the new show.
Maybe Brophy didn't expect the call and isn't surprised, but that that's the convention here is disrespectful and stupid and everyone from the TNG regulars to some A-lister who knows the BS will tell you that.
Even Ricardo Montalban was surprised to be called back as Khan.
And returns of oldies but goodies have increased since because of how well stuff like that worked.

Exactly. You're used to it now, but you had to get used to it because it was bothersome experienced for what it is.

Here we go. You didn't start this thread, but this is a textbook example of Bad Arpy. The second bolded passage is perfectly actionable; the first is telling people what they think, which is just plain rude. I won't hand out a formal infraction this time, but that will change quickly if this behavior persists.
