Brian Brophy didn’t return?

Personally i think it's petty to be worked up over a guest actor from a 30 year old episode being recast but i don't feel the need to call the people i'm disagreeing with 'petty'.
Maybe we're legitimately not understanding each other on this point. I'm good letting it go.

I'm pretty sure we all understand, it's just that many of us don't feel it is all that imperative.

It really wouldn't have any effect on the story itself either way.

I understand you fine. I just don't care about Maddox being recast. I'm not sure what is hard to understand about that.
Now we're just talking past each other.

For me, it's a matter of how important is the actor chosen to fill the role, as presented in the show.
Since the character of Maddox so far, has only had an important backstory to the tale being told and was dead within twenty or so minutes of appearing, the person who was hired isn't really all that important.

I agree. I would understand people being upset if say Hugh had been recast. His impact on TNG and the meaning behind his appearance resonated a lot more. At the same time where do people draw the line on recastings? If STP features the Bringloidi next season, would people be shitty if the woman Riker was constantly trying to hit on was recast?

If the salamander babies from "Threshold(VOY)" ever reappear they'd better not be recast. That's all I'm gonna say.

My rage will be all-consuming and destroy everyone here.

Same goes for the Conspiracy parasites on screen. Unless they fight against Seven - no chance for any parasites.

Was there an interview or tweet or something? How do you know he wasn't approached?
I talked to him about it some 2-3 weeks ago

Guys, like I already said, Brophy's biggest role in the last ten years was "Unnamed Crime Scene Photographer". Between this and the fact he has a full time job, If I had been a casting director, I wouldn't have even considered him.
What were Frakes's, Sirtis's, Spiner's, and Del Arco's biggest roles in the last 10 years?

Are you serious? This isn't even remotely the same considering Frakes, Sirtis and Spiner played there roles in 170 episodes and 4 movies. Frakes has been directing films and television, Sirtis and Spiner have both had regular recurring and guest spot on tv series and engaged in voice acting. Del Arco had recurring roles on the Closer and Major Crimes and Nip/Tuck. They haven't been reduced to roles like 'extra' in the waterboy and 'crime scene photographer' in NCIS.

He is a distinguished arts, research and theatre professional - stop dissing him or saying he's not up to task. He's definitely still in the acting world - in fact, doing exactly what Avery Brooks did throughout DS9, namely teach and oversee drama....

BRIAN BROPHY is a twenty-five year veteran actor in the film/TV/theater industry, and is in his tenth year as Director of Caltech Theater. He has directed over fifty plays around the world and is a thirty-year veteran actor in the film/TV/theater industry. His roles in A Day Without a Mexican, Cradle Will Rock, Shawshank Redemption, The Player, Star Trek TNG’s “The Measure of a Man,” remain his favorites. A Fulbright Scholar; Scholar in Residence at the Indian Institute of Technology (IITGn); Yale-NUS Singapore Artist in Residence. He is a multi-recipient of the California Arts Council/Culture Affairs Department artists in community grant, and recipient of a George Soros Foundation funding award for a theater project in Bosnia.

Prior to Caltech he taught college at UC Riverside, Pomona College, Benares Hindu University, IIT Gandhinagar, and CSULA. His research Interests include theater for social change in India, an international collaboration and partnership in the transformation of culture through dialogue, storytelling and friendship.

Along with receiving a Sloan Foundation/Ensemble Studio Theater Grant, TACIT has presented at Association for Theater Higher Education (ATHE) Conference and hosted several Indian artist-activists, co-producingTesla, an original radio drama written by Dan Duling at the Pasadena Playhouse, plus performing at Descanso Gardens, and the Armory Center for the Arts. He is also the Artistic Director of Mach 33, a new science driven play festival now in its seventh year at Caltech.

I can't imagine he doesn't still act and oversee acting (honestly not too different from Frakes who doesn't "act" in the way we know anymore but is in the show). Though it would have only been a few days for Brophy, and Caltech would probably encourage a cameo in the show.

But I imagine they did reach out to him (like they did del Arco) and he probably said no; I think it would have been sad had they not done so.

I'm noticing that nobody is even remotely bothered in the same way about Icheb's recasting, and I'm quite sure that Manu Intiraymi had more screen time in his character than Brophy...;)
Here's why nobody cares:

I'm sure there were articles in the "trades" about this show being in the works. If Brophy had been at all interested in returning to Trek he would have had his agent (does he still have one?) looking into it. The fact that he was unaware of the character being used, according to a report on this BBS, tells me that it was not at all on his radar.

But hey, I've been wrong before. :techman:
