BREAKING: Paramount Sets Top Secret Star Trek Movie For Summer 2023; To Be Produced By J.J. Abrams – TrekMovie.com
J.J. bringing Star Trek back to the big screen June 2023
Today, Paramount Pictures revealed a new release schedule for a number of its upcoming movies, moving several films, like Top Gun: Maverick, the Mission: Impossible 7 (and Mission 8), and more around. But buried in all the reshuffling was a “untitled Star Trek movie” set to be released on June 9, 2023.

There are no details on this Star Trek movie. TrekMovie reached out to Paramount Pictures who provided the following comment:

The UNTITLED STAR TREK film is a top secret project that we’re developing with J.J. Abrams producing.

Paramount said they were not able to share any other details at this time.

I'm going to be cautiously optimistic about this one. Not only is it the first Beyond follow-up to actually get a release date, but it's only two years from now. That's not a lot of time to develop a movie from scratch and so I think it has to be based on one of the countless scripts we've heard of. My guess is either the Hemsworth return story or the unknown Kalinda Vasquez script, the latter being more likely.

Seen this, cautiously optimistic.
Have to start filming around the start of next year or so? Maybe spring, so that gives them 9-12 months to get it going. Doable..

The Startrek.com announcement calls it a "Star Trek Universe movie" which might mean in-continuity with their Paramount+ stuff?

I reckon it's an announcement to gauge potential interest and online buzz rather than anything concrete. No director, no writer, no plot, no cast. Just a date which I fear they're working backwards from, hoping the rest will fall into place. Three unmade movies since Beyond later, I'll believe it when the first spy pics leak out not a day before.

And I say that as a die-hard fan wishing them all the best.

I am disappointed to see JJ Abrams name still attached to anything Star Trek.

It'll be just fine as long as he doesn't do any of the writing. Could just be a courtesy credit anyway like Beyond. J.J. didn't actually work on Beyond much to speak of but still had a producer credit.

I would even welcome Abrams directing it as long as he has nothing to do with the script.

I won't believe it until I'm sitting in the cinema on opening night.

If it is to happen, though, I hope it's the Tarantino film or a fourth Kelvin film. I don't see how anything else will be of great appeal.

Fantastic news!!!!!!!!!!!
It will have to be a continuation of the last three brilliant films with the same outstanding cast.
Fantastic Fantastic Fantastic!!!!!

Do people actually believe this stuff any more?
Why not? All the movie developments were legit, just like any other studio development for major properties. If it wasn't for Covid, Hawley's movie would be finishing up filming right now for example.

JJ's Trek movies were Parsecs  better than any of his SW films.
