Breaking: Michael Jackson hospitalized

This news has made me sad and sick. This poor man had a heart of gold and had always done nothing but good, if sometimes misguided and controversial. I can 110% identify with growing up without a childhood, and I don't blame him for a second for trying to get back those ever so precious years. I am certain beyond a doubt that his recent controversial activities had no ill intent, just unaware of how it would look to others - he was just a child trapped in a mans' body. No wonder he went into cardiac arrest - if I were so generous and got nothing but demonization in return, my body would probably give up living too. I can't imagine how anyone could have doubted the intent of his actions with such honest and open admissions, and that soothing voice. I really need to sleep on this terrible news in an effort to come to terms with it.

I really do hope it wasn't precription drugs abuse... Heath Ledger all over again.

Was it abuse with Ledger? Anyways, I heard that he was not feeling well the night before and actually had a doctor with him the night before he died.

Ledger was on like six different -legaly prescibed- medications at the same time. Maybe not "abuse" in the traditional meaning when people talk about "drug abuse" but he did abuse the drugs he was on to his death.

I heard God told Farrah she could have one wish and she wished that all the little children of the World would be safe.

RIP Michael.

One of the local radio stations played MJ tunes all day long, spanning his entire recording era. They even (in a very tongue-in-cheek way) changed their name for the day in his honour from Jack FM to Jacko FM.

I was surprised that Jack FM stopped their regular programming to announce that he had died. Jack's never done that. They also started a block of MJ's songs.

Our local 94.9 Rewind station did an all day tribute to MJ, and would play a block of songs, then talk with fans for about 10 minutes, then play another block of songs. It was fitting, particularly as I got to listen to a bunch of my favorite songs, hear some great stories, and just think about who we've lost. Michael will be missed. Quite the musical and dancing prodigy. :(

J.

Actually, I heard about MJ being taken to the hospital just as I was leaving the house, and I changed stations from Jack FM to a news station just because I didn't know if Jack would announce breaking news like that.

It was a moot point, anyway. Official confirmation didn't come until an hour after I got out of the car.

I read that he had the heartattack in some "Just in" newsbulletine here in Sweden. Went to bed thinking "prolly nothing superserious". I just did not think it could be a big deal since my dad has had 2 and always been fine with just getting to the hospital. Maybe I even thought it was one of those "drahma/fake" stories always around him.

Shame on me :(

no chance of these medications being banned and the vendors jailed?

too profitable.

and congress is full of crooks on the take from big pharma.

It was more left hand not talking to right hand and neither hand talking to the body.

He was prescribed two different medications for each of like three different conditions -one being anti-depressants. It was simply that his doctors didn't know what meds he was on so they didn't know what meds to not give him or how to take the medications.

Really it was more "supidity" on his part taking so many different drugs at once and not informing his doctors -or pharmacist- on what was going on.

I can't help but wonder if the Toronto Jack station would have done anything if they still existed (but they don't -- they were replaced almost a month ago with the incredibly-lame KISS-FM). I'm sure the DJs would have mentioned it, but I somehow doubt they'd start playing a bunch of his songs... maybe one or two at most. They were definitely more of a rock-oriented station, and I don't think I ever heard them play MJ songs. Perhaps they would have made an exception in this case, but who knows?

I passed by a newspaper stand today, and I saw one of the major Toronto newspapers with just a picture of a white glove on the cover, with "1958-2009" written underneath. The whole thing is still kind of surreal, but as many have mentioned, it's actually somewhat expected that MJ died relatively young. I never really thought about it, but considering how obvious it was that he wanted to be the boy who never grew up, did anyone really see him becoming a septuagenarian? It may sound kind of morbid, but I find it a little hard to picture.

I was a little shell-shocked last night... but today it has really sunk in. I feel so sad. I've been having to hold back the tears. Such a shock. Whoever it was who twittered "the day the music died" hit the nail on the head. He was my childhood idol, but I hadn't followed him for a long time. My reaction has taken even myself by surprise.

If people experience strong grief with the death of a distant celebrity, how could they deal with real tragedies (i.e. those with personal implications)? Is their reaction to - say - the death of a loved one proportional, such as a few years in mourning, versus a few days for a celebrity, or is it similar sort of reaction, such as would indicate a really rather frightening emotional superficialty?

BTW -- it is highly unlikely prescription drug abuse has anything to do with it. If his problems have been with painkillers, opioids are generally slightly cardioprotective excepting dextropropoxyphene and methadone (which do cause arrhythmias sometimes). But he wouldn't have been using either. But maybe he was prescribed methamphetamine or amphetamine, which is a different story.
