Borg or Species 8472?

The borg had three "telemovies" Scorpion, Dark Frontier, and Unimatrix Zero. They also appeared in Drone, Q2, Endgame, and Tinker Tenor Doctor Spy(albeit as part of the doctor's fantasies).

They had a prelude appearance in Unity.

Hmm.. that's true. Plus I might have misinterpreted but by Flesh Species 8472 had shifted focus regards who they wanted to cleanse. It was like the Borg.. pfft, they are so yesterday. They wanted to address those who had helped the Borg, Federation people, until Janeway actually brokered a deal. As soon as they seemed to find a threat wasn't a threat anymore they retreated. I know that is in the face of how they were first encountered but they were wounded in Scorpion. They had been the ones attacked. I just don't see them as being this mindless killing force. They were intelligent, refined.. yes, refined. Educated and not bent on takeovers to grow their collective. I guess they could have gone all off screen and wiped out everything they could but I don't think so.

I could see them finishing off the Borg after "Endgame" but I see that as a more of "finishing the job" rather than the wholesale "purifying" the DQ like in "Scorpion."

It's a matter of viewing other races as "people" which the Federation was able to do since they were willing to have an intelligent discussion rather than wholesale destruction.

Just have to disagree again.. I don't think Species 8472 saw the Borg as a job to finish by the time they got to the Flesh. However it was in their capabilities especially once they gained the extra knowledge.

The Federation had that weakness of seeing something not even remotely humanoid and the fears we all have about 'monsters' take over. And they were scary, but they were not mindless.

Species 8472 was obviously very powerful and very dangerous, in the end it turns out they were amicable to negotiation even so there was no guarantee Boothby's superiors would acquiesce.

Can you imagine a Species 8472 invasion right on the heels of the end of the dominion war? The Federation would be ground into powder.

I don't think they are mindless either. I think that they would see an opportunity to deal with a potential threat, since the Borg are not amiable to negotiation, and were dealt a rather severe blow in "Endgame." It isn't hard to imagine some of the more militaristic leaders advocating for a decisive strike.

That would be a rather dark outcome.

I don't think Species 8472 is mindless... but they are highly vindictive. The Borg encroached on their space and started their "You will be assimilated" routine, which is a "surrender or die" ultimatum... so S8472 was more than irritated. Going by what Kes picked up telepathically, she repeated... that their intent was to wipe out all life in the non-fluidic universe.

Now maybe they eventually cooled off after the Borg finally left them alone. But I still think they're the greater threat.

On a side note, I thought Seven's hostility towards 8472 was so misguided. "They destroyed hundreds of worlds, killed so many millions of Borg." Yes... because the BORG STARTED IT!

Yes, Seven was cruel with that poor lone creature in 'Prey'. 'Prey' is the episode I will never watch again because I hate the torture of it.
