Borderlands. Anyone getting it?

Got this finally for the pc. During the training part of the game the robot guy stopped moving and I was stuck and I immediately regretted getting the game for the pc. It wasn't that bad though, I just had to restart (keeping the xp and money I got from the first broken playthrough) and it continued fine.

Good: I like the art style of the game, the environments look great and the opening movie was really fun. I like the mmo structure of the game, getting quests and whatnot. I'm a sucker for loot, so I love that. Seems to have decent character customization, but I'll have to see about that as I play more. I've liked all the weapons I've gotten so far, unlike games like Red Faction where most of the weapons suck. I like that the drops are tailored to your character, so no getting ammo for guns you'll never have. Having a chance to fight for your life and get a second wind when your life is out is brilliant. The enemies are a bit dumb but fun enough to kill for now, and they seem to regenerate at a brisk pace keeping the world from being boring.

Bad: Story seems kind of 2nd rate, same with voice acting. In fact a lot of this game seems 2nd rate, like a copy of several popular games that was made a country that doesn't make that many games. Blue ghost lady that only you can see from halo, vaults from fallout. The safes look exactly like the fallout 3 safes, only the fallout 3 safes were generally placed in locations that actually made sense. In this game they just kind of dumped them wherever it looked like there wasn't enough stuff going on. Same with the toilets, which always have bullets or money in them. (I wonder if they ever reveal this magical being that poops money and bullets.) The skag piles look just like similar item piles in world of warcraft and dissolve in almost exactly the same way. It would be nice to be able to tell how hard I was getting hit without looking at my health bar, that was one of the nice things about fallout. Some lazy mob generation. With the sniper rifle I can just point at a skag hole and head shot them as they slowly come out one by one. This isn't the worst pc port ever, but it's pretty obvious this game was made for the consoles with the inconsistant use of the keyboard and mouse in menu's. They really couldn't set it up so you can scroll quest text using the scroll wheel?

Overall I'm liking the game.

Yeah, it's a console game made for the PC... and there is no story.

Sadly, I want to be the guy who grinds epic loot though. Too bad there aren't that many 50s on their second run yet. :(

I'm having an absolute blast with this game!!
Talk about a time sucker!! 1/2 Hr of game play = 2 Hrs in R/L
I always feel compelled to see what great loot or gun I can find in the next crate, locker or Skag Vomit pile or what is around the next corner.

I agree the game does have some flaws but nothing that is a deal breaker IMO.

I love the save anywhere and drop-in drop-out features.

I do wish they had a way of locking your favorite weapon in your back pack as I've accidentally sold some of the great loot I wanted to keep a few times.
I know the game has a buy back feature but with so many weapon choices it's hard to remember some of the names because they look and sound alike.

I hate this game with a passion. It's absolutely DESTROYING my sleep schedule because I keep playing until 2am with my buddies!

It's been a long time since ANY game has done that, probably all the way back to when I was completely engrossed in Mass Effect. I loves me some sleep.

I hear ya.

Firehawk12 and I hooked up last night and I had to cut it short because I realized it was rapidly approaching 11:00 pm and every day since I have gotten that game I've been up waaaay to late.
I have been soooo tired at work the next day.

BTW thanks again FH!!

Ugh I wish I read this before I played today. I was shooting at some guys and it seemed like it was taking forever to kill them. When I checked I had accidentally equipped a lvl 2 sniper rifle and sold off my level appropriate one because I usually sell off everything that's not equipped or higher level. Turns out if you hold the E button instead of tapping it, it will auto equip the item. I wish there was a item locker somewhere because I just picked up a rifle I can't use for 12 levels and I don't really want to carry it around.

Actually I just found a solution to that for the PC version, you can just go to My documents>My games>Borderlands>willowgame>Config and find the willowgame.ini and open it in a text editor. Then you search for willowinventorymanager and you'll find an entry that sets the number of items you can carry which should be set to 12. I've set mine to 32, enough to let me explore without worrying yet not game breaking.

I like that the vehicles are not overpowered. The weapons seem to scale to your level and they're not invincible. It just seems that the collision boxes are bigger than the graphics so you end up not being able to go through areas that look like your car can fit.

I started a roland game and he seems kind of underpowered so far compared to mordechai.

Hah, yeah, you get inventory spaces by doing quests. The max is 42.

Siren is my favourite class for solo though. The Phasewalk makes some of the more average battles more bearable because you can just walk past everyone.

In case anyone was wondering what the title update was for...

Update notes:
• Fixed a bug which caused players and other things in the world to appear incorrectly on clients in networked games
• fixed a bug in which players gibbed in arena combat disappeared
• fixed a bug which caused the dollars counter to spin continuously
• fixed a bug that caused the digger elevator to be unusable after completing the Find Tannis mission
• Weapon mapping to the D-pad should no longer reverse left and right
• various localization and other text and tooltip corrections
• The introductory quests with CL4P-TP should now always progress properly all the time
• Lilith's Phase Strike ability now works as intended
• Load times have been improved

Yeah, I was surprised when I punched someone in the face and finally did like 5000 points of damage. Phase Strike actually works!

Ugh, is this another game hopelessly bugged on its initial release?! I'm on dial-up and don't have XBox Live so I wouldn't be able to download any patches. This happened to me with Far Cry 2, there's a glitch that won't let you save the game past the half-way point, so I had to get rid of it.

Nope. I put about 20 hours into the 360 version before the patch and didn't run into any game-breaking glitches like you described with Far Cry 2 (that Far Cry 2 glitch is one reason I only played a handful of hours in that game despite really liking what I did play of it).

Well, there's one multiplayer glitch that seemingly deletes all your character progress, but that's about it.

This game is consuming pretty much all of my gaming time. After Red faction decided not to accept my save files after I transferred over to Windows 7 I've given up on that game. If you're worried about the glitches, they don't seem that bad. So far I've just had an npc stop responding in the middle of a quest, and a mini boss fell through the world and disappeared, but both were fixed by reloading the game and losing maybe 5 minutes of game time.

Borderlands on the PC looks significantly better. The only positive on the console version is that some of the far away enemies are easier to spot because the cell shading outline is much thicker on the console version, other than that the pc version seems to be better in almost every way. I just wish it was developed for the pc first so I don't have to deal with weird interface issues because it was a port.

I'm loving the guns so far. Just so much variation. While I do seem to get a super gun that kills everything about every ten levels, outside of that I keep about 6 guns around for specific situations.

Multiplayer seems pretty fun also, but 99% of my time has been single player so far. We went with dual sniper so it was lots of coordination on taking out targets from afar.

The locational damage is something that I really like. Reminds me of the metroid prime games where you had to figure out what the weak spots on the enemies were. I'm also glad that the variation increases on enemies. I just wandered in to some valley where I ended up having to fight what felt like hundreds of those spider guys, that was extremely fun. 2nd winded 3 times to get out of that and ran out of ammo on a couple of guns before they stopped coming at me. Felt like I fought back an entire zerg rush by myself.

Most of the boss battles have been too easy. Sledge or whatever the first big boss is called, ended up being too easy because as a random drop I got some super sniper rifle that killed him in 4 shots (which was quick since this gun had a super high rate of fire). The only boss that has given me problems is the mothrakk, which killed me four times and cost me 40k before I decided I needed to hide and pick away at it little by little.

I finished the game last night and continued right on into a 1+ game.

I have to say I'm very impressed how well they leveled the enemies up to match me.
I've had my ass handed to me a couple of times in Fyrestone and was very glad about the second wind feature.

I also like how it took all of the tutorial stuff out.

I'm also curios as to how the other 3 characters play so I will be doing that at some time too.

Great job guys!! Now hurry up and get that DLC out as I will be picking that up day one as well.

So I know there's lots of talk about revolvers online, but man they are seriously broken. They're just too powerful compared to other guns. Right now I have as my main weapon a pistol that does almost as much damage as my sniper rifle, with the same zoom, but with faster firing rate and reload speed and less recoil and 200% melee damage. As a hunter I end up with a 40% chance to shoot two bullets per shot on top of all that. It also seems like revolvers have a really good accuracy when not zoomed in unlike sniper rifles. In contrast the rocket launchers all seem pretty worthless.

The alien weapons are kind of lame so far. For one thing they don't seem to benefit from your skills, so the 5 points I put into the power to ignore shields just goes out the window with the laser guns. Also the points I put in to expanding sniper clip size doesn't do anything for the laser cool down on the alien sniper rifle. The only benefit I've seen so far is that they don't use ammo.

I'm near the end of the game now and I'd probably give it a 7 or 8. Good game overall.

Just finished the game on a second go around and had just as much fun as the first.
Great game, bring on the DLC!!

Man i just read a review. cant wait to get my paws on it. reminds me of fallout3 bt with different graphics and a class system.
