I think everyone agrees that "Before Dishonor" was not PAD's strongest work. In fact, it was downright weak. If Janeway had met a similar fate in the Destiny trilogy, there would be far fewer complaints; that would be a worthy storyline to go out on. Much of the discontent arises from the fact that she went out in a relatively weak book that wasn't even under the Voyager banner.
While PAD certainly deserves criticism for the weakness of the book, he should not be blamed for the event in question in general; I believe the decision to take that step was handed down from the editors, or somewhere higher up anyway.

But you all know what? I don't think Janeway's really dead! I think her subconsciousness is still around..and the crew has to look for it. Kinda like the episode "Cathexis" where Chakotay's subconscious was bouncing around the ship and you thought he was dead.

Anyway, I hear you on that one. I didn't necessarily read to see HOW she died(I preferred not to as I thought it was tragic enough to learn that she DID die!) I just read online that there was a rumor going on that she had indeed died. I honestly don't believe she's dead either. She just disappeared somewhere or went off doing something else. But your comment gave me quite a laugh..especially the "half mystical glowing woowoo lady" and the "real woman, drinking coffee and barking orders at people" comment!
