It's not that I don't want to see elements of TOS in ST XII, but Khan has already been done to death with TOS and TWOK and Enterprise with the Augments/Singh.

No Genies (genetically engineered)in the next film, please.

How about Enterprise helping out keep the peace in the Federation as surrounding powers try taking advantage of it's weakness

You said it, sista. I enjoyed the two books, too.

Personally I'd like to see "them" create a sequel thats rooted in the classic episodes style. I dont feel we need main charachter bad guy so much as a bad situation for the new crew to solve. For example "operation anihilate" didnt have an arch nemesis per se. Neither did "dooms day" machine or "the immunity syndrome". Rather it was the situation that was the threat and peril. Something along those lines with some conteporary science to back it up would be just fine with me. I dont require a villain either new or rehashed. Khan wouldnt make a good addition as essentially we would have to be presented with a new origin story and I dont think orci/kurtzman need to take us there.

No. We've already had one Khan movie. I don't want to see another. Regardless of what timeline we are in.

New timeline, new stories/villains...

I don't want them to re-do Khan. I don't see the need to re-do whole storylines. It would just cause people to compare it to the original.

I really want a new villain! We have already had Khan.
How about no villain at all? A number of excellent Treks had no villain: for example, The City on the Edge of Forever, The Naked Time, Amok Time, and The Paradise Syndrome. How about taking an original approach to Trek instead of yet another film about fighting a menacing antagonist?

The Voyage Home. No weapon was fired in anger. One of the biggest movies of 1986, and the largest grossing Trek movie until ST09.

Besides that, there were some unconventional antagonists or "villains" in TOS:
-- Charlie X
-- Harry Mudd
-- Balok
-- the Talosians
-- Karidian
-- Trelane
-- the horta
and that's just the first season.

They can do it. There are plenty of ways to create conflict in a story besides a scenery-chewing Sindely Whiplash. Especially in science fiction. They'll have to stretch their storytelling muscles, but they can do it. (We hope.)

Dear god, NO. I know I'm in the minority, but Khan was a horrible, stupid villain who (among other factors) ruined any chance of TWOK being good for me. I'd much rather not see him again. And besides my personal feelings on TWOK, I think it would be better for this new set of Trek movies to have their own new characters for antagonists.

I love all of those.

How many of them are potentially half-billion dollar moneymakers at the box office in 2011?

None, really. None at all.

I hope we'll have Khan in the next movie....

... as the opening act of the whole thing. Just jump right into the climax of Space Seed, maybe with a twist. let Kirk an Khan finish their struggle for control of the ship. No introduction to it except the name Khan.
Kirk wins of course just as we saw in the TOS episode.
Then the Enterprise immediately receives orders for their next mission.
just before they go to warp we see them marooning Khan an co as before.
Only this time it's Ceti Alpha SIX instead. Khan stands on the planet's surface watches the sky and shakes his fists at a tiny warp flash.
He swears bloody revenge when the surface begins to tremble.
Khan: "What the f...!"

Then we get the title sequence and off we go boldly where no one has gone before with an original story.

This idea is win. It has my full support :techman:

I think it would seem like a rip-off of Nero now. Nero is essentially an EXTREEEEME version of Khan, so to follow that up with...Khan would be a pretty big downer.

Red Matter. I wonder if they used that when they made the Genesis device?

The idea above about alternate Khan being a simple opening act is good. If they do use Khan, I'd like it to be the shortest possible, non-main appearance.

Maybe have Khan show up only to be killed/rendered unimportant by a more advanced new villain. Or taken care of really easily by Kirk and crew with their advanced technology. Or the Prime Spock takes care of him to prevent the possibility of his own temporary death in the future.

So, you would've never approved of the idea for TVH? TMP?

And, even with the international take, what Trek movie is ever going to be a half-billion dollar moneymaker at the box office? If a Khan-like story is the only way this franchise can be successful, then let's knock off the "boldly go" and "optimism" and "strange new worlds" and "ideas" crap. Let's just chuck it all, now. No need to hold onto the pretense. (Let's just make a Trek version of Independece Day. It did bonkers at the box office. ;))

So, a Trek film with an evil alien menace that attacks Earth and people are rallied to go fight them? That would be the plots of The Motion Picture, First Contact, Nemesis and the latest Star Trek film.

Um, there's a difference between all of those. Independence Day was totally brainless, and it made almost $310 million in the U.S. To this day, my only response to that box office number is, "God knows why." I really wouldn't like to see a Trek film with a "God knows why" answer to its box office success. (If you know what I mean.)
