I said preferably not and pitched an idea based on the Dysonsphere :)

But I gave a wee little Khan idea if they insist on going that route and suggested they get Nick Meyer involved.

I'm in no way saying they can't make an awesome Khan movie. I just don't want to see Khan at all. I'd rather see something totally new and unfamiliar.

Exactly. I suppose that if they chose to do it, I'd support it regardless, but I'd rather they didn't.

I think the writers should drop hacking old stuff and focus on creating something intelligent and original for the new timeline. Breaking free from old Trek was the whole point of creating the new timeline, wasn't it?

How can you people accept this? If they use Khan, then they're pissing on old Trek for the sake of profit because that pair of halfwits who call themselves writers can't conjure up their own idea. Make them prove me wrong.

Making money is what its all about. if they can tell a good story, and it involved khan, then so what? Did you notice how BATMAN; THE DARK KNIGHT managed to do both as well??? I think these movie producers, directors, (JJ and Nolan) seem to know what they are doing.

$$$$ and good story = success.

"Trust me. I know what I'm doing," have been the first words said on the route to many disasters. ;)

Well, any good story will make money. As far as the buzz created by a Khan rumor goes, they better be very careful that the buzzing is really not groaning.

Further, as someone said upstream, Khan is not the Joker. Not even close. The Joker is an arch-enemy. He's like Moriarty to Holmes. He gets rehashed because he is as much a part of the Batman saga as Batman himself is. He lives in Batman's head. He stands for all that Batman fights against. Batman exists because of him, and he exists because of Batman.
To put Khan on that level is to elevate him to a status he does not deserve. He was a good one-off character. A nice foil to Kirk. But that was all. We're romanticizing the rest.

I think most of us agree with you on that one.

Wow.

It seems like the "nays" have it at the moment.

If we can't have Khan, I'd still like someone from TOS. There are 79 stories there to cherry pick.

Garth of Izar?

Harry Mudd?

:D

The mugato. Or, several of them. Star Trek: Mugatos on a Starship. If it's well-written, it'll work.

Khan, heck yeah. Why not? Everyone knows Khan. Lots of people would love to watch it and it can be used a a new prequel to TWOK.

Just get a different director though. Like, Nick Meyer!

And different writers. Like Harve Bennett and Jack Sowards.

In the DC comics in the 80's they had a Horta as a security guard on the Enterprise.

I'm not kidding...

Someone needs to have words with his career counselor.

If you have to bring back Khan, I say he has to kill Spock...or even better both Spocks.

It seems to me most people have forgotten that part of what made Khan great was that he was actually able to kill (though indirectly) Kirk's best friend.

How will a new Khan have any impact if he is not allowed to take any real toll on the new crew?

You know? You have a point, but I think it would be really annoying for Spock to die because of Khan...again.

He could kill someone like Pike, though. That would certainly resonate with me.

Actually no, I would prefer they explore new plots and stories. There is so much they can do... and if we want to see Khan, we have an episode and a movie to watch.

Besides, who could replace Ricardo? ;)

You kind of bring up a good point, actually. And, what poignancy would it have after Nero offed six billion Vulcans in the first movie?
Khan took a toll on Kirk in TWOK. If he can't take the same toll on Kirk this time, then what good is he? And, would we really want to go in that direction again? Balance the loss of six billion Vulcans in one movie to the death of one in the next? Well hey, let's start the rumor now, anyway: Spock gets killed in the next movie!
