Would you Like to see Khan in the new movie?

If you have to bring back Khan, I say he has to kill Spock...or even better both Spocks.

It seems to me most people have forgotten that part of what made Khan great was that he was actually able to kill (though indirectly) Kirk's best friend.

How will a new Khan have any impact if he is not allowed to take any real toll on the new crew?

And kick Quinto out of the franchise? Like hell.

No. Been there done that. I don't need - want to see it again except on my DVD. Originality, please. Lets boldly go somewhere we haven't gone before.

Orci has said he wants to get a feel for what we the fans want in the Nuverse, I hope he sees this poll result.

If it was the only way we were going to get a really strong antagonist for the next film, then yes. Especially since I have a weird feeling that the next bad guy is either going to be Khan or someone irritatingly similar to Khan.

If they're leaning on the second, then they may as well just go ahead and call him Khan.

All the major elements in this film were old favorites, except for Nero; and we see how that went over.

How can you people accept this? If they use Khan, then they're pissing on old Trek for the sake of profit because that pair of halfwits who call themselves writers can't conjure up their own idea. Make them prove me wrong.

You may be surprised to learn that no one much cares whether you consider yourself to have been "proven" right or wrong.

I prefer the suggestion made over there that Khan be teased in the second film and set up for the third.

I would be fine with this. I'm not necessarily opposed to the idea of reusing adversaries or storylines from TOS for future movies, but I think if the TPTB do a remake/retelling/reimagining of a TOS story (particularly one so well known) with the first post-origin movie, the public might think the entire film series will just be a reworking of prior storylines.

The new film does a good job of opening us to new possibilities - lets explore something different and new in the next film, and if they want to revisit previous stories in the third film or beyond, then fine.

I'm not suggesting they write a whole film to make me happy.

But rather, if Bob Orci is turning up on trekmovie and asking fans if Khan should be in the sequel, then it's clearly something they're considering based upon the views of fans. And if he should happen upon this topic or this poll (which I'll conceed he probably won't), and there are enough people saying they want Khan in the film, then they may well go ahead.

I don't want to believe that they're poor writers, considering pretty much the whole future of Star Trek is in their hands, but if they resort to such a lack of originality, then that's the conclusion I'd draw. If the alternate universe is an opportunity to tell new stories in the TOS era, then the contrived inclusion of the great villain from old Trek would be a step backwards for storytelling as a whole, and I'd like to think the people who now control Trek would be capable of better.

Ultimately, I'm just a guy on a forum, like anyone else here, but I care about Trek, and I don't want it to go in a lazy direction. If they can do anything new with Khan, then they'd be better off using the ideas on a different villain, because judging by the latest film, they wouldn't stand a chance of bettering TWOK, and using Khan would be an insult to that film.

No. just, please, NO.

EDIT: I can't believe Bob Orci sometime. I can't believe he's asking this. I can't believe they're seriously considering this.

over and above everything else. just who the fuck is going to play the dude?!

No. just, no. leave TWOK alone in its glory, please.

Maybe Orci's question is a red herring to keep the real storyline hidden. That is my charitable take on the whole question.

We'll know for sure once the cast for the next movie is announced. If there's no Khan, then no problem!

My husband thought that he heard somewhere that they cast Olivia Wilde (from "House") as Saavik. I don't know if this is true. For those of us who do not wish to see a Khan movie, this does not bode well ...

Aashlee, well, it at least adds some weight. Now we just have to keep an eye on him to see how its falling.

Indranee, I like that idea! It's exciting!

No. I'd really like Star Trek to get away from using an "Evil Villain" altogether. There are far more compelling ways to generate conflict than just having some baddie running around messing shit up. That's just not interesting anymore, to me anyway. And with Khan specifically, I had enough references to past Trek, albeit very fun ones, in this new film to last me a life time. I'd like a movie which, in 20 years or so, will itself stand up as a point of reference. Which is one of the things which makes The Wrath of Khan great.

But this will probably not happen, as current Hollywood wisdom dictates you need a strong, central Big Bad that the audience can spit at or no one will care about the conflict. But I say look at The Voyage Home, or The Best of Both Worlds era Borg, or even The Lord of the Rings where the main antagonist was a ring and flaming eye on top of some building thousands of miles away. These were far more abstract than a character like Ru'afo was but the audiences seemed to follow the protagonists plight just fine.

Whatever the next conflict ends up being, the next film should be about Kirk learning what it is to be a Captain, a more mature leader who knows what it means to work as a team. I suppose there are a lot of ways to get into the growth of all the characters, I'd just rather not have the means be another pissed off biped with funny alien face prosthetics. Give me a Big Dumb Object any day.
