I love how half the people in this thread are just throwing out vanilla bullshit games because they're completely unfamiliar with the german/euro/designer scene.
I love me some Power Grid, Agricola, Pandemic, and of course the way-too-awesome-for-a-licensed-game Battlestar Galactica.
I love how this is pretty much the only topic in the world that can pull me out of lurker status.
Ditto that. But I can have fun with some of the Vanilla party games, too. I like
25 Words or Less or
Catchphrase --because the competitive streak in me just HAS to play! But nothing is like kicking ass at
Power Grid.
Battlestar was fun (hubby is a nuBSG fan), too--but I find it somewhat tedious after we played it 3 or 4 times.
Agricola aggravates the hell out me, because I can NOT beat my husband at this game to save my life---but I keep trying. I find it challenging, and I like that. He loves the game; he even bought the "meeples" for it--little wooden sheep, carrots, bread, fish, logs, etc.
I enjoyed
Pandemic, as well. It is a surprisingly complex little game; at a game party, while the men were playing
Twilight Imperium for the umpteenth time, the women took
Pandemic out (a brand new game) and figured out how to play. It took us three times through to really figure it out, but by the third time, we had it completely whipped.
I have played
Puerto Rico a few times, but I find the set up to be a pain in the ass. I much prefer the fast and easy
San Juan; I'm becoming less and less patient in my old age.
Has anyone here played
Kill Doctor Lucky, or the even harder (IMO),
Save Doctor Lucky?
There's also a fun Munchkin-type game called
Ninja Burger. Like the Munchkin games, the cards are pretty damn funny. But I'll always have a place in my heart for
Star Munchkin.
