I've seen the movie quite a bit, and boy is it a triumph.
The attack on the Kelvero in the opening sequence was thrilling and emotional - the Fedoranarada certainly packs a punch - it's Smarties torpedoes (good choice, JJ - everyone knows that Smarties are evil PEZ) completely tore through the Kelvero. The VFX in this scene were breathtaking - you could even see the Kelvero's googly eyes go limp as the ship started its collision course with the Fedoranarada. Nero's lack of headgear was both sinister and surreal and Captain Robau's sombrero was the most badass hat ever seen in Trek. Seriously, the horn playing "La Cucaracha" and the slots which dispensed quesadillas and bottles of horchata were great equipment for his sombrero.
I thought the cameo by Shatner in the Iowa bar scene as "Jabba The Shat" was a bit too Star Wars.
Bones giving Kirk a vaccine against Melvaran Dress Taste was a nice touch - we all know Melvarans like hawaiian shirts, highwaters and turqoise plastic pith helmets - seeing Kirk wear that getup was a bit odd, at least until the effects faded and he changed into his all-black ensemble w/ black sombrero.
Nero's plan to destroy all the Federation worlds using a gumball machine to blow bubbles at the heart of a planet's core until the planet exploded was both brilliant and sinister.
There are so many things right with this movie.
