Well, if we're going to go with Uhura's earpiece, we're probably going to need her giant hoop earrings, as well. (Maybe hanging down from the underside of the saucer section?)

Since Spock was also seen to use a similar earpiece on more than one occasion, (and since those are almost certainly not Uhura's ears) calling it "Uhura's earpiece" may not be entirely accurate (were the earpieces monogrammed or personalized in any way?) but I think we should see what the hoops would look like.
