(some stuff)
M'Sharak, have I told you lately that I love you?
Aw, shucks!

Personally, I blame Sam for calling this down upon us:

And most shocking of all, none of the usual members of the Sourpuss Brigade came in to rain on the parade. :techman:

:p

Look...what you'll find on this board, for the most part, is a very healthy respect for TOS. I know very few people on this board who dislike that show. Some of the younger kids may not have seen much of it because they can't get past the look of it - especially when it comes to 60's costumes & makeup and special effects.

I'll toss my hat in the ring as a young 'un who watched TOS pretty religiously as a kid. I remember forcing myself to stay awake for the midnight airings on the local FOX station (and usually managing to fall asleep halfway through the episode--I still remember konking out in the middle of "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" and waking up at 2 am annoyed that I didn't see how it all turned out...) So it's certainly true that there's plenty of love for TOS here, if any of the TOS-purists out there are concerned.

Frankly, on this board, we have alot more trouble with people who are too rigid than people who are too relaxed. And I say this specifically to you, because your comments in this thread, combined with your username and avatar, as a newbie supposedly still on best behavior, have me a bit worried, frankly, as to the direction this is going. If you show up here and within 50 posts are being hostile and judgmental to people who like other shows or are trying to be positive about the movie...well, let's just say that normally gets on the staff's radar pretty quickly. We have had more than a few 'Show X Only' fans here who have done very well and gotten along great. But we have also had those who have gotten themselves in ALOT of trouble through running around upsetting other forums through making claims that only Show X is a good show, and all others are not even Trek, etc.. Comments like that do not go over well, and, from the staff's POV, are far more likely to end you in hot water than is participation in an obviously silly thread such as this one. In short, a certain amount of diplomacy and a sense of humor are key to a long and enjoyable stay at TrekBBS.

I think he relaxed. He accepted the PEZ, remember? ;)

That's very good to know!! :techman:

Believe it or not, I am staying open-minded about this new film (none of us know that much about it) - I just get a little touchy when I perceive people are mocking TOS.

Not to worry -- Cogley's an equal-opportunity mockerist; everybody is fair game.

I love TOS, indeed all things Star Trek - and I reserve the right to take the piss out of my favourite show(s). We are fans, so all things Trek are fair game.

If fact, this is the only place in the world I can crack a Star Trek gag with people who will "get the joke".

Well, most of them anyway...

And I daresay that I'm probably even a bigger TOS fan than TOS Purist, so no worries. :techman:
That's good to know...although I sincerely doubt the second part of that message.

Also...me likies teh Ent-D Sombreroprise. 'Bout time someone poked fun at that ugly, stunted-bird looking thing!

Of course, other people are allowed to like it, I'm not invalidating anyone's love for that ship or that show...but it's totally unfair that they got to see it UNCHANGED (except for two extra bridge stations) on the big screen, while I STILL have to suffer through horrendous redesigns of the TOS Enterprise. Wasn't the original design good enough for the big screen? I think so.
