That is a funny comparison!
Don`t be so sure that Ichigo will be out of luck. Have a close look at the preview at the end of the episode - later on Ichigo is showing half of his hollow mask.
Even without kido powers and with Zangetsu rebelling, Ichigo obviously doesn`t lose the hollow side of his powers.
My review of 232
The start was lovely and made me laugh. It was nice to see Renji smile like that and it was cute when he ruffled Rukia`s hair affectionately something I also do sometimes with my young daughter. I wonder what happened to Byakuya, too but I am confident that he isn`t dead and will probably reappear when we least expect it.
The confrontation between Rukia and the spirit of her Zanpakuto, Sode no Shirayuki was very well written and touched me a lot. I could see again that Sode no Shirayuki uses her powers more effectively than Rukia ever did, something I also found very interesting. Nevertheless, I could see again that Shinigami still have their kido powers and also Rukia was far from helpless.
But what I mainly liked was the description of Rukia`s point of view. I loved the flashback when Rukia discovered the powers of her Zanpakuto, the wonder and joy she felt. And I laughed when Kaien ruffled her hair, the same as Renji did. Rukia is certainly one of the Shinigami who treated her Zanpakuto well and felt she had a special and precious bond with it. I understand Rukia`s pain that Sode no Shirayuki is hating her now. I don`t understand the “why” behind the rebellion either but I am sure, we will learn more bit by bit.
I wasn`t sure if I should be amused or starting to get fed up with it that Ichigo was coming to the rescue – again, not to mention in spite of the risks that also his Zanpakuto spirit might rebel eventually. On the other hand Sode no Shirayuki showed how dangerous and powerful she can be when she froze Ichigo`s sword arm. I liked it very much when it was Rukia this time helping Ichigo and drawing her attention away from him.
It showed the deep respect Rukia has for Sode no Shirayuki that she is willing to set her free no matter what the consequences would be for her but that she can`t let her take away everything she is supposed to protect. It was a powerful gesture when Rukia actually let her go and the deep impact it made on her former Zanpakuto spirit.
If Muramasa wouldn`t have interfered maybe she would even have been prepared to return to Rukia at this point. At the very least I would like to think that she doesn`t hate Rukia any more and could one day help to bring both sides together to find a solution. That Muramasa is a Zanpakuto was obvious but nevertheless, it needed to be spelled out.
The artwork was beautiful again and I enjoyed this story very much. If the makers of this Anime can keep this up, I am even hoping that this filler will go on for quite a while.
