It has been busy here since I left. I think I post my review of the new episode (#235) first and then I will have a closer look at this interesting discussion:
The fight of Renji versus Zabimaru took a very interesting turn. The antics of these two spirits was fun to watch again but nevertheless, the way they treated Renji was definitely not funny and even from their perspective not justified at all. A wielder who achieves Bankai is not weak and Renji has been working hard all his life as a Shinigami to become stronger.
I was mainly curious how the fight between Muramasa and Shirosaki in Ichigo`s soul space will continue. I wasn`t surprised that Muramasa`s powers don`t work on a hollow spirit but we learned a bit more about them. His hand movement looked like casting a hypnotic spell to me but even if that is true, it also binds the spirit in question. I noticed that Shirosaki immediately stopped laughing when Muramasa rendered him helpless and he obviously got scared. This is an unusual reaction for a hollow and shows again that Shirosaki is not a typical hollow. He might not like the idea but Ichigo was right when he said that he is part of him.
I always thought that Renji and Ichigo are very much alike in many ways and this episode pointed that out very well. If they are pushed into a corner defeated and seemingly helpless they still keep coming back. Both of them keep pushing heir limits especially when it is about defending a friend, a loved one. Here it became a matter of honour for Renji and a matter of saving his hollow part for Ichigo. It seems determination is the key for achieving at least the Shikai even after the Zanpaktuo spirits have left. Both of them also have a goal: Ichigo wants to get Zangetsu back and Renji is also determined to defeat Muramasa.
But maybe this also worked because both of them achieved Bankai in the past. I hope to learn more next week. I can only guess at this point but maybe Bankai users leave an imprint of the powers in the Zanpaktuo that can be accessed when the bond with the sword is strong enough.
I liked what Ichigo said at the end of this episode. Ichigo still considers himself to be human although he has Shinigami and hollow powers. He seems to be very proud of that fact. And why not? I like it a lot that in spite of all the powers Ichigo has now he is first of all proud of his roots as a human.
It is good that the Zanpaktuo filler is becoming more three dimensional, that the line separating the bad from the good guys is becoming more and more blurred. I am curious about Zabimaru`s reaction in the next episode after Renji managed to achieve the Shikai without the spirits. I am also sure that Muramasa will go after Ichigo again. Now that he knows that he can`t bring Shirosaki over to his side and Ichigo is more dangerous than he expected, he might want to lock him up as he already did with Yamamoto.
In spite of the title of this episode, there was not a lot about Hisagi versus Kazeshini in it. What was interesting is that Hisagi admitted that he loathes his Zanpaktuo so much that he wouldn`t hesitate to kill Kazeshini in order to stop him from killing even if that means losing his Zanpaktuo. Kazeshini thought that Hisagi would be the right Shinigami to wield him, a Zanpaktuo whose only purpose is to end lives. Hisagi is a fierce fighter but even the flashback as a child didn`t show him as someone who enjoys killing. If Kazeshini is telling the truth, wielder and Zanpaktuo spirit make a pact with each other, probably at the time when the Shinigami discovers the Shikai level. I hope to learn more about this. It seems next week Hisagi and Kira will fight Kazeshini together. This could be interesting.
I just noticed – I have written more than one page again!
Before I stop I want to write something about the latest edition of the Quincy encyclopedia: I enjoyed it to see Isshin and Ryuuken again. The picture of little Uryuu is absolutely adorable
. When I watched this the first time, I was laughing. When I watched it the second time I got more worried that Ishida will indeed be in serious trouble with his father when he comes back.
