Black and white version of Deep Breath has leaked

Man, if I was working at BBC Miami, I think I would be scared to death... heads are gonna roll....

At this point, I feel bad for the people at BBC Miami. It seems obvious to me that they put up materials on an unsecured sever, probably with the best of intentions, and never realized that someone outside would have access to the files. It's an innocent mistake that happens more often than anyone realizes. The only reason we know about and are discussing it is that it involves Doctor Who and we're all passionate about the Doctor.

I don't know whose head would roll, nor do I know if heads [iwill roll. Moffat may want a head to roll, but I doubt seriously that his influence extends so far. If a head rolls, the person whose head should roll is an IT person; he's the one who didn't secure the server which sent the files into the wild. But, in my experience, IT almost never takes the heat in a situation like this. So, it will be some minor player, someone who thought he was doing what he was supposed to do -- and very likely doing what he was told to do.

Honestly, I don't think it will be a detrimental situation, as far as getting an actual audience for the premiere. As it is, its B&W, cropped and unfinished SFX-wise. Not to mention the score could be temp. So I think those who would have watched it, will watch it regardless. Just to see how it is in completed form.

That said, I do think this situation should be contained. No more leaks. Frankly, its the scripts' leak that ranks as the worst, IMO.

I hope to see no more leaks, but youre right, It was more like a tease. Even tho its a fully watchable episode, it was very raw footage.

Im looking even more forward to the real episode now.

If anything, he seems a bit sad that heads will roll, and some poor sap's career will be messed up because they didn't get what they were dealing with.

I agree with this. I also couldn't help myself, and I'm glad I saw it, but I'm definitely excited to see the episode complete and in color. All I will say about what I saw (and this ISN'T a spoiler) is that I'm already a fan of the 12th Doctor based on the episode.

Didn't this happen with "Rose" about a decade ago? Except it was pretty much the finished episode with some music and FX not done etc. (It used the 70's theme in the opening instead etc.)

It was a sample ep. given to Space the Canadian sci-fi channel and it had all the effects in it, it just had the '70s theme music, But it looked pretty good none the less.

It was the superior version to what got broadcast on UK TV.

I don't know what it is about these things. A part of me says it's stupid to not just watch it in its final pristine HD color presentation and yet a part of me really wants to watch that crappy screener right now.

I get that, but, I would say, wait. It's not how the episode was meant to be watched. A lot of people are putting effort into the finished product, how it was meant to be seen.

I say respect them enough to wait. It's not that long.

I know you'll still watch the other fully complete episode, but, how would you feel if someone came into the middle of your work and started reading, watching, etc, judging, talking about it?

It also had no Graham fucking Norton, so was definitely one up on the airing!

I was curious(New doctor and all)

The black and white screened used music from "Batman Begins" LOL

Specifically the tumbler chase

And yes we basically get a non foul mouthed Malcolm Tucker.

Having watched it now the thing that struck me most about it was total lack of originality in it. It's not just Moffat ripping off other people (which DW has a grand tradition of) it's him ripping off himself and not even trying to disguise it.

And for a "feature-length" episode is remarkably unambitious, blowing it's budget in the first five minutes and then being mostly people standing or sitting around talking. (With more than a few scenes that pretty much repeat what's already been covered by earlier scenes.) Do they not have a Script Editor any more?

Maybe there's a reason they gave them a B&W unfinished episode.

This is something I really don't get. I work for a post production facility and the absolute last thing we do is send - or receive - anything in monochrome. It can be unfinished, it can have burnt in text on screen but converting it to black and white is a bizarre step I've not seen before.

Trust me, management will push it down to the smallest IT technician if they could manage it...
