Bill & Ted third movie on the way?

Why does it need to be the best opportunity he can come up with?

Maybe it's just something he wants to do because it'll be fun. Most actors would give their left nut to be associated with an iconic character like that, there's a lot of love for Bill & Ted out there.

Personally i'd love to see him do this.

Again...he mentioned that he would LIKE to do a third Bill and Ted. He never said one was in the works in that article. This is all just pure speculation.

Wow, Reeves' acting career has really sunk that low?

He's worth tens of millions and has been working steadily for the past ten years, and has a $100m sci-fi movie in pre-production, so... no?
You missed my point. Money isn't an issue, rather I meant that the best thing Reeves can come up with for a movie opportunity is this silly rubbish.

Which wouldn't be true either.

Just pretend you were making a joke and we'll leave it at that. ;)

I would totally go see this. I should've tried to ask Keanu about it at the premiere of his new movie last week.

And I for one love the second movie, mainly for the unabashed silliness of the whole thing, and the fact that they didn't simply regurgitate the plot of the first film. I mean, really, who would've expected that the Bill & Ted sequel would involve the two of them getting killed by evil robot duplicates, wandering through the afterlife, defeating the Grim Reaper at board games, and acquiring the assistance of some alien scientists to build good robot versions of themselves?

Yeah, I can see how some might see it as a bit of a mess plot-wise, but the filmmakers really ran with it, and to get the most out of the movie, I think you just have to run with them.

Yeah I read about this earlier today. I loved the first film, the second one sucks, don't really know what they could possibly do with a third film as both actors are older now.
Without George Carlin? Can't say I'm too interested. The second film, while it has its moments, doesn't hold a candle to the fun and humor embodied in the original.

^Perhaps this is just a case of me being weird, but I honestly like the second one much more than the first. Admittedly a lot of that has to do with the (much better) soundtrack but I think it also had a lot more scope, fun and enjoyably outlandish scenarios.

You're not weird. Bogus Journey is demonstrably better than Excellent Adventure; one is a good film, the other is a great film, bursting with the imagination of ten great films.

I rather think that'd undermine the end of the second film.

Indeed. Can you have Stallyn One on Mars, yet no budding utopia on Earth?

It's really kind of hard to come up with any third-film idea that beats the combine of Hell, Heaven, Death and the Evil Robot Uses.

I'd love to see the Stallyns get the band back together (minus the late George Carlin, of course). In fact, I'm even more of a fan of Bogus Journey than I am of Excellent Adventure! But, considering how the second film ended, I can't imagine where they could go with it next. Not to mention that we all know what happened with the last Keanu Reeves film series that continued its story past a point that seemed like a good stopping place. Other potential problems could be that the majority of the modern moviegoing audience just isn't going to be into the Stallyns brand of rock music anymore, or the fact that phone booths have given way to the age of the cellular phone.

All that being said, I'd still go see a third Bill & Ted for nostalgia's sake. Even if it did turn out to be crap.

The second one was worth it for William Sadler as the Grim Reaper.

I have to admit, I'll see Bill and Ted three in a second.

Wait...you thought I was serious?

Their ages wouldn't be a hindrance, just make Bill & Ted former rockers turned brain-dead VH1 reality TV stars and continue on from there.

I'd watch it.

Ohhh, I love that idea. Combine it with Spiff's idea about the Utopian future not having happened.

"Dude, what happened? This is not the future we were looking for. We're washed up reality show stars. Totally bogus reality. What we need to do is put on a concert to show the world we can still rock. Like the 80's, man! Like, totally!"

"What the hell, dude, like nobody is excellent to each other and the music sucks!"

Far be it from me to assume that people mean the things they say and write. I won't make that mistake with you in the future, I shall assume everything you write is total bullshit.

Happy?

I suppose that kind of intrinsic to the premise of the movies is that Bill and Ted have some cosmicly huge adventure - first they travel through all of history and meet famous people, then they die and go to both Heaven and Hell. So that's probably the place to start in figuring the next one out. What's left - what's next?

Fighting alien invaders, unfortunately, is very 90s. Vampires don't seem their milieu, somehow, and frankly aren't BIG enough as a concept no matter how big their current popularity.

Alex Winter has confirmed that it's in development -- or at least a script is. Awesome. :D

I'm glad that it won't "fall prey to kind of retro cynicism or something that was unnecessary". They seem to want to keep it in the spirit of the original films, which is good news to me.

Other tidbits he let slip: a third film will not be a "passing the torch" movie where their kids become the new Bill and Ted, and (thankfully) there was never any discussion about the possibility of recasting Rufus.

They could probably deal with the 2012 prophecy of doom, go back in time and get involved with the Mayans, figure out why they all died, all the while trying to figure out a way to stop the world from ending.

"Hey look, dudes, the world's ending. We came here to talk to you to figure out how to stop it from happening." Except they die before they tell them :p

I'm a fan of 'Bill & Ted' and would love to see another entry in the franchise materialize eventually, but I want the film to have a story that works and not just be a studio cash-grab.

The charm of a lot of those movies from the 80's are that they're first and foremost CHARACTER pieces. The plots need substance of course, but without the characters to drive the "Adventure"... What's the point?

I'm glad to hear it won't be a cynical deconstruction of the first two movies. It just needs to be funny, wacky, and good-hearted.

The Bill & Ted movies did something that's a bit rare among comedies today: they managed to be funny without being crass. I enjoy crass humor as much as the next guy, but it's nice to have a change of pace.
