Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's wedding

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

No, William Shatner is answering to the fact he thinks he wasn't invited to Takei's wedding.
Actually, I think he's responding to Takei's public comments about not inviting him. That's a different thing, although you may not see it.

And last time I checked, Takei didn't get married anytime before...
I don't get this. Who said anything about Takei getting married before? Or...do you think that's what I meant when I mentioned Takei's "prior history"? That's...odd.

...it's still not a reason to say he has psychological problems.
Meh. We all have our individual "takes" on the situation. As long as you maintain your right to think Shatner's an unmitigated asshole, I'll retain my right to think Takei has shown a consistent pattern of childish and vindictive behavior, either because he's fixated on the "wrongs" he thinks Shatner has done him or (actually more likely) he's discovered that stirring up public crap about Shatner gets him PUBLICITY! ;)

We all know of your dislike of George Takei on these boards, so let's leave it at that.

Apparently, my rare - but, I'll admit, consistent - comments over the years concerning Mr. Takei and his ongoing feud with Mr. Shatner have really rubbed you the wrong way. However, this is a discussion thread about that very topic. If you can't handle it unless every participant takes your side, maybe you should just avoid such threads.

OTOH, if you'd care to discuss the topic, as all the other participants here are doing, that would be fine! But just telling me to shut up really doesn't meet the standard of "discussion." ;)

You sure must have some "beef" with George Takei, if you are so overprotective of your "captain?"

It's really "with us or agin' us" with you, isn't it!

FWIW, aside from expressing my enjoyment of most of Shatner's acting performances - from Captain Kirk to Denny Crane - I've never bothered to act as any kind of cheerleader for him.

I'll even freely accept, again FWIW, that he was every bit the shit that Takei says he was on TOS...and since! Even given that, I still say Takei's response over the years (assuming it's genuine) borders on pathological.

However, this is your thread. You started it. If you really want it to be just an exercise in Shatner bashing, then just tell me so in your reply...and I'll clear out so you can have your fun.

I'll even make a deal with you. In the future, when you want to start another "pure" Shatner bashing thread, just note it in the thread title - just a little "SBT," for "Shatner Bashing Thread" somewhere in the title, and I'll stay out of it.

Otherwise, I'll continue to feel just as free to post my opinions on this PUBLIC bulletin board as anyone else.

Gosh, these two guys bitch like teenage girls!

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

In the interest of accuracy, here's what Takei said to CNN (toward the bottom of the transcript):

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0806/17/sbt.01.html

"We have a list of 3,500 names and believe me, I can assure you, William Shatner is on that list. And as I said, we`re going through the winnowing-out process. So we`ll see how it works out."

Which easily translates as snark as to whether Shatner will or will not 'make the cut'. Would it have been better for Shatner to just ignore yet another slight by Takei? Sure. Was he out of line for responding to it? Not on your life.

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

You know, as someone pointed out in the thread, Shatner was still a dick at paid apperances. So, Takei wasnm't there. This establishes a pattern. While Shatner's post had merit to it, it's becoming obvious Shatner hasn't changed and he's very likely still the person he was back during the "Star Trek" days, so if he is stilll the same then I can't blame Takei from not enviting him to the wedding.

In fact, going on the theory he is a dick, this would just be par for course; bitching every other month about not being part of the crappy new Trek re-visioning, not being envited to the wedding. He's just a grumpy old fuck. Maybe he did drown his wife.

^^^THAT last crack was uncalled for. I'm appalled by how awful people can be here sometimes.

Yeah, really...bringing somebody's family into it is out of line.

Oh plase, everybody was probably thinking the same thing about Robert Blake until they arrested him.

And the difference there is that the police actually had the evidence/warrants required to do so and to pursue it to court.

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

'The whole thing makes me feel badly, poor man. There is such a sickness there. It's so patently obvious that there is a psychosis there. I don't know what his original thing about me was. I have no idea.
'I didn't read his book that was printed many years ago, but apparently I didn't let somebody have a close-up. I literally don't know him.
'I didn't know him very well on the series. He would come in for a day or two, as evidenced by the part he played. Then on the movies, there occasionally. I didn't know the man.
'But he has continued to speak badly about me for all these years. Obviously, hiding his homosexuality - talk about festering and not living the truth of your life and feeling badly about yourself - and being fearful somebody would find out about this terrible, terrible secret, so he thought.
'Finally at the age of, I think, 70, he decides to come out of the closet and say, "I'm gay."
'Like, who cares? Be gay. Don't be gay. That's up to you George.'...
'You would think he had this epiphany and say - because he and I don't have many years left in this world - "I wish him well. I'm so happy that I wish him well."
'But instead what he does is he makes this big deal about not inviting me to his wedding.
'If I was such a terrible force in his life - even some 40-odd years later, because I've not seen him - that I effect his marriage where he has to isolate it, what kind of sickness is going on in the man?
Why would he go out of his way to denegrate me? It's sad that the man can't find enough peace in his life to either say "Be positive" and say "I forgive him, whatever those hurts were", or to shut up about it.
'It's sad. I feel nothing but pity for him.'
