Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's wedding

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

^

Man all of this is so pitiful. It's been how many years?? For people who have pissed me off I just don't give a crap and move on.

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

^So will Shatner apologize as loudly as he spouted off when he realizes his people never told him about the invititation, or is he just a liar? I put my money on the latter.

Grumpy old men III :Takei'n up the aisle.

Oh well i suppose you cant stop people being assholes when they want to...just a pity that after all these years they cant at last just let bygones be bygones.

What was it again? Stark Trek XII: So Very Tired?

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

I just read this on yahoo.com and was appalled at this. It sounds to me as if both of them are having communication problems. Shat says that he didn't invite him to his wedding, then Takei saying: I invited him he just never RSVPd. It's rather strange. But I have read where these two have been bickering over stuff for the last millenium. And I agree with some posters here-it's getting old really fast! Takei, IMHO, seems like a nice guy..and Shat seems like a pre-Madonna, always wanting to get his way. I'm not sure who to believe on this one. I think every TOS cast member had a little beef to share with Shatner(especially in his roast) and I've read where most of them, with the exception of Nimoy, never really got along with Shatner on the set. I don't know..in a way, this is blown way out of proportion.

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

It's all too bad, I guess, but I just don't care.

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

I really like Mr. Takei, but truthfully... Enough. The guy is relentless in his Shat-bashery. And it's been going on for years. I'm not surprised the Shat felt the need to poke back at least once.
The problem is, that sound bites from some of the supporting cast members aren't quotable and won't make it into the press unless there's some dirt there about the real Star(s) of Star Trek, and that's good 'ol Bill, who is still enjoying a successful acting career.
So it's not surprising that this kinda mud-slinging is frequently included in the things Takei says.
The Shatman is right. Let it go dude. It makes him seem like he's still riding coattails if he feels the need to evoke Shatner's name all the time to get any attention. It seems that way whether it's true or not.

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

In my mind, Bill Shatner is a different man than he was back in the day, and it's a shame that people can't forget the past and move on.

Bill Shatner RULES

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

I'm with Takei on this. He tried reasoning with Shatner by inviting him to his wedding, but apparently Shatner didn't show up. And on ET, Takei also made the statement that Shatner didn't show up to the Hollywood stars celebration for TOS cast members in like the 90s. But I think they need to move on..I agree with what Mom said earlier when I told her about this. She said that it's like "two little ten year old kids bickering and fighting over a toy..it's stupid!" I agree with you, InfernO. Some people just can't let go of the past and move on..and I think both of these two men are the perfect example of that. BTW, I wonder if Nimoy actually DID INDEED invite Shatner to his wedding back in the 90s but Shatner never RSVPd to him either and never showed up?? Hmmm...fascinating..:vulcan:

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

I'd say both aren't good on this.

Takei comes off like an unforgiving bastard who can't drop a grude or muster up some forgiveness after 40-some years and Shatner comes off like an egotistical blowhard.

As far as "acting" goes, my preference leans towards Shatner as he just has a "qualtiy" that makes he watchable plus he's friggin' Captain Kirk!

I've great respect for Takei and he's a good actor himself and I wish him all the luck in this chapter of his life and I've respect for him on his "coming" out after decades of "hiding." (Though it could've always been there and no one noticed because no one cared about Takei until he came out. ;))

Both are good men, both are good actors, both are stodgy Grumpy Old Men peeing for distance.

Shatner is an infamous "no show" at events where the rest of the ST cast turn up. De Kelley's Star ceremony in 1991, Nichelle Nichols' in 1992, even the roll-out of the NASA Enterprise space shuttle in the 70s, etc.

Nothing new there.

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

The two of them go on and on, and meanwhile spectators will have turned around to look at the new cast in the new movie. Maybe they will let it drop then.

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

I've met both more than once.
Shatner was very unpleasant, even to those paying him for his appearances. I have seen him be rude to others when it was NOT necessary.
George was just the opposite. Kind to fans and kind to those who brought him to conventions. He introduced me to people who helped in my bid for a new Trek television series and gave me much needed encouragement (as did Jimmy Doohan).
Although I didn't like it due to the language, George even showed up for Shatner's roast on Comedy Central.
I don't really care about the interviews. I believe actions speak louder than words and Shatner's actions over the years show me he is still an unpleasant person.

Mr. Spook, I have met both too. I sat next to Shatner on a plane for three hours, and was invited to his home for dinner...I have met Takie once and found him to be arrogant and aloof to those fans gathered around him...So, based on what I saw, I think Shatner is way cooler...and when you talk to Shatner, he just comes across as some guy from another time...we talked about the filming of Judgement at Nuremberg and how that had changed his life...I even got him to laugh about White Comanche...the guy was down to earth..

All I got out of takei? Arrogant to the NTH degree..

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

The only thing I'll say is that a wedding is supposed to be this super happy day of celebration for the couple and the people that are important to them. No one should be obligated to invite people they're not comfortable with or happy with, especially if they aren't actually friends.
YES!
Shatner has a lot of brass suggesting he was entitled to a wedding invitation. Sheesh!

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

ugh, they're all such drama queens! who the fuck cares!

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

I've met Takei three times, including once upstairs in a hallway (he stayed a few doors down from my room. Poor George. T'Bonz was three sheets to the wind and dressed up as a female Romulan to boot. What a sight. :D)

He was gracious, kind, funny, friendly. Not arrogant in the least. Not even close.

I've not personally met Shatner, although I saw him at a con and he autographed something for me and the rest of the long line, so I can't say what he's like, other than he was funny and personable when it came to the presentation.

It's a pity they can't just let it go.

Re: Bill Shatner's response to being uninvited to George Takei's weddi

Shatner's got a point, but it wasn't one that needed to be made publicly. Takei has been pissing on Shatner for years and years... it's time for George to get over the offenses of his youth. At the same time, Bill is clearly a blowhard and egomaniac. Eventually, one of them is going to have to be the bigger man and simply shut up about the other. Shatner's response to not being invited to Takei's wedding should have been to just shut his pie hole and not go.

Well, that's no fun!!

I'm with Data in "Haven" when he said, "Could you please continue the petty bickering?" :)

This jibes with my impression of him in person--generous and congenial.

Which is the opposite of the experience a good friend of mine had working with him as his assistant at an event in San Diego, where she said he was rude, distant, and expected people to do everything for him.
