Big Bang Theory, yes or no?

I beg to differ. I thought the wood gag went on too long. I know it was a Leonard/Penny episode and they had to give something for the others to do, but it just kept going and going and going. It was okay, just dragged out too long.

"Oh no! They sent the wrong Spock! Live long and suck it, Zachary Quinto."

It's lines like that which might divide some folks on how they feel about the show. Personally, I get a kick out of it, but there are bound to be fans of the JJ Abrams film who get irked by it.

The JJ Abrams film is my favourite of the Star Trek films and I really like Zachary Quinto, but I thought it was funny. All they're doing is poking some fun at how defensive sci-fi fans can get about their favourite franchises. I'd hope that nobody takes the show so seriously as to actually be offended by what's a pretty harmless joke.
This sums up my feeling on this pretty well too.

In an astounding example of cosmic synchronicity pursuant to this discussion, we were watching a 3rd season BBT episode on DVD tonight which included the following vanity card in the closing titles:

But I think it was too long on purpose. Since the conceit ended up being that it was all part of Leonard's imagination, the joke was really that's how he perceives Sheldon to be.

They may have a live audience, but they will certainly add laughs (even if they are recorded from said live audience), especially when a scene needs several takes and the joke wears off.

The laugh tracks of Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory have a lot of repetitions. You can always hear the same love in different episodes. Sometimes even several times in the same episode.

I'm not sure how that vanity card is relevant.

But then again, every time I look at one of those it seems to read "Chuck Lorre needs to be punched in the face"

Since there was a discussion about BBT using a laugh track, why wouldn't it be relevant?

Exactly. The audience reactions are pretty obviously enhanced, regardless of whether or not the audience is there.

I feel like Sheldon is in the thread with us right now!

Pages and pages of laugh track arguments? Seriously?

No wonder they make fun of us.

As to the actual show...I hope they don't screw up Leonard and Penny. I like them together.

And Amy continues to delight.

:techman:

Pages and pages discussing whether there's a laugh track or not, I post a refutation of laugh track use by the producer himself (including a photo of the live audience), and you don't see how it's relevant? :cardie::wtf::cardie::wtf::cardie::wtf:

What I find annoying about the current season of BBT is that they seem to be moving away from the geek/science jokes towards constant relationship stuff. And there already are hundreds and hundreds of sitcoms dealing with that. I don't mean that BBT has to do away with the dating episodes, but please please please bring science stuff back in.

(And Leonard & Penny... pffffft. Dysfunctional. Leonard is whiny and annoying. Bring Leslie Winkle back to shape Leonard up.)

I agree!

I'm afraid that's not gonna happen because relationship humor is mainstream and this sells.. both to the audience and to the advertisers.

Sine BBT became successful they have steadily reduced the ratio of science-related jokes because, let's face it, the general population might (and i stress might) not get it and tune out because it's a weirdo show with wierd jokes nobody gets.. even if that's not true (and all the jokes are understandable with a little bit of general knowledge and a bit of interest in science) producers won't take the risk and take the safe route.

I too miss good science jokes but that's the curse of sucesss.. aim for the lowest common number.

While I do still enjoy the show and it is my favorite comedy what you have said is true.

I am on a Big Bang Theory Message board and the consensus there is the show has moved away from its Geeky roots and is becoming another regular sitcom.

Yeah, it's kind of becoming "Friends - now with nerds!" Especially with the situation they have now that the girls hang out in Penny's apartment and the boys in Leonard & Sheldon's.

It's sad. First you have something a bit different. People notice and like it. And because people like it it gets transformed into something ordinary so that even more people would like it.
