Beverly and Jean-luc

Topic: love that Jean-luc and Beverly are married and are expecting a child in "Losing the peace."

Response: Agreed.

There's nothing wrong with objecting to something that's said. But there are avenues for doing so which don't derail discussion in the meantime, that's all.

I don't see what's so objectionable about the suggestion that Riker spent the whole honeymoon playing his trombone. Although Deanna might've had an objection.

What?

:D

Just for the sake of accuracy, it was in Greater Than the Sum that the marriage and pregnancy were initially established, and this continued to be the case through the Destiny trilogy and into LtP.

Finally, someone brings this all back to topic and provides some useful information! (Not that I have any real objection to useless information; I read the "news" all the time.)

It doesn't hurt to remind you guys every now and again that there are actually women onboard

You do realize that appreciating a dirty joke is in no way the exclusive province of men, right?

Dirty jokes are fine - BTW, where was the joke exactly?

Juvenile vulgarity for the sake of it is something else.

If me regarding a particular comment as being worthy of response makes me a "backseat moderator" then I've lived with worse. I'm not trying to censure anyone, much less report them to a moderator, but nor do I think that particular comments are somehow immune from genuine response just because the guys seem to be onboard and are happy with the tone.

I've responded from a different perspective and viewpoint and believe that both are entirely valid given the context provided.

Happy to leave it here.

None of which changes the fact that men have no exclusive claim to the behavior to which you object. Claiming to remind people that "there are actually women onboard" is both a given -- there are numerous female posters -- and absurd, given as how the behavior you object to is not male-specific.

I still don't understand what's objectionable about the suggestion that a honeymoon would consist of nonstop sex. I mean, isn't that the whole idea (allowing for hyperbole)? And since when was there anything bad about a husband and wife having sex? (No obvious punch lines, please.) Okay, the specific verb chosen was a vulgar bit of vernacular, but as slang terms for the sex act go, it's rather mild.

I don't understand what the problem is either, I did raise an eyebrow at the term "boning" though, I havn't heard that term being used since I was a young teenager!

Christopher, at the expense of breaking my promise to leave things where I left them - and only because you appear to requesting genuine clarification - let me clarify:

There is nothing objectionable about a couple having "nonstep sex" on their honeymoon.

My point is that the term "boning" is a particularly crude slang word which carries with it a deliberate inference of male physical aggressiveness against his partner. Look up the word in any of the urban dictionaries online to see what I mean. And THAT's not what I think was happening on JLP and BC's honeymoon.

I think I'm entitled to comment on its use and I believe the point I made is a valid one (although it now does seem to be leading the thread OT - which is not my intention).

Thank you for asking.

Would have been nice to see the wedding in Nemesis taking place on Betazed. Though the critics probably wouldn't have gotten the point, and only criticized the age and fitness of the actors.
