Beverly and Jean-luc

Picard proposed to Beverly sometime in August 2380. As of their first scene in Greater Than the Sum, which occurs on September 22, they've recently returned from their honeymoon. So that would place the wedding in late August or early September 2380. That would be two or so months after Sword of Damocles, so Titan would be quite far away at that point.

^Except that Betazoids don't have a nudity taboo, and nudity is in fact mandatory at Betazoid weddings. So why would Deanna have a problem with strippers?

There's a difference between being nude and being a stripper. Strippers aren't just nude -- they're clothed provocatively and then become nude, while dancing in an erotic fashion in order to deliberately induce a state of sexual arousal in the customer.

Now, Deanna may well not have a problem with that. Certainly she wasn't jealous when she sensed that Will and Christine almost kissed in Destiny I; maybe she thinks that having a temporary subject of lust around, for either sex, is a healthy thing in a marriage. I don't know.

But I don't think that the comparison of a stripper to the relatively asexual nudity of a Betazoid wedding is an accurate comparison. Intent matters.

Was the nudity ever explained?

They're Betazoids! Pure and simple: They have no taboos with the naked body. They're minds are open to one another due to their telepathy which in turn makes a nudity taboo kind of ridiculous. They dig nudity and I love them for it ;).

Well, according to "Imzadi" it symbolizes that everyone is being entirely open and honest with one another, sharing in the joy of the occasion. No barriers, no hiding. Although given that Betazoids don't take much notice of physical appearances anyway (supposedly- Lwaxana seems to obsess over it, but then she was married to a human) I suspect it can't be too significant a symbol. It's probably mostly just "tradition" that's been excessively ritualized like so much of Betazoid society, or at least the society of the old noble houses. I assume that just as the individual telepath needs to be grounded in their own mind before they can integrate the influence of other minds, so Betazoids as a culture feel the need to strongly affirm "their way" as a means of relating successfully to alien influence. So they tend to engage in tradition for tradition's sake a lot. If Lwaxana isn't an exception and clothing does or did indicate status like in humans (Lwaxana once mentioned a discarded custom of elaborate wigs), perhaps all being naked also demonstrates all are equal for the purposes of the ceremony, and bestowing appreciation on the couple. Another idea I had is that it's symbolic of the sexual act- Betazoids can't hide feelings of attraction so there is nothing in their culture forbidding flirtatious thoughts with one who is not your mate, but everything we've seen suggests Betazoids are sexually loyal to a single partner. You can think but you can't act. Maybe everyone's naked as a symbol of that act, unique between official couples?

The same was done for Riker and Troi's honeymoon, IIRC.
Probably because it was 24/7 boning.

It'd be great if you would just try for one moment to actually think with the organ purpose-built for that role before posting middle school graffitti on a website not actually intended for the giggling appreciation of regulars to the boys bathroom.

Feel free to get a grip on your organ of choice - but do remember to squeeze hard.

At some point thereafter we are waiting for you to understand the basics.

And then....perhaps we can look to you to write something less obviously offensive.

If you're offended by anything I've posted, feel free to report said posts. Until then, quit trying to be a holier-than-thou internet hero accusing others of sexism (finding women attractive is sexist, folks) and thinly veiled jibes at ones intellectual understanding.

I've no reason to report you to TPTB, because I'm not offended on any ground WORTHY to bring it up with anyone else to referee.

But perhaps YOU have an issue addressing viewpoints posted on a moderated site that are not totally in-sync with yours?

Ah well. Such is life.

In any case, is there a chance you might respond to what I've actually posted or have you decided to throw dolly out of the pram?

^ Either ignore him or (if you feel it necessary) report him, but how's about keeping your schoolyard bullshit from other threads out of this one, and stop derailing the topic?

Mid-50s, I think. She was born in 2324 and I think we're currently at 2380 in Trek-Lit.

TNG is up to May 2381 as of the epilogue of Losing the Peace. Which makes Beverly 56 (she was born in October) and Picard nearly 76 (he was born in July). Although given improved medical science and longevity in the future, that'd be the equivalent of people 10 or 15 years younger today.

@Dayton Ward - and your "on-topic" contributions to date so far on this thread are:

The real story's with the bachelor party....

And much later in the piece when God help us a female (me) happens to dare comment on a posting she regards as way below the belt - even for low bar set by these threads:

Get a grip DW, or do you feel some sympathetic craving to hold it for Shazam?

It doesn't hurt to remind you guys every now and again that there are actually women onboard, and I for one am quite happy to state that what Shazam said stinks and I'm more capable of taking him/her on it. Your nonsense defence on his/her defence is silly and repulsive.

You should really know better.

If Shazam ain't willing to hold his/her ground that's fine - certainly ain't your business mate.

My mistake, forgot about the nudity requirement at a Betazoid wedding.

Whereas your own have been to inflate a minor joke which no one took offense at into a headache for everyone.

No one likes a back-seat moderator. If you have an issue with something that's said, just hit the notify button and LightningStorm or Rosalind will review it.

I realize you mean well, but it's easy to become part of the problem if you aren't careful.

So, just to be clear for future reference, the offence is not the posting of the words:

Probably because it was 24/7 boning

but to react negatively to that wording.

Yes?

Had my suspicions, but would appreciate having them confirmed.

Would it assist to say as others now claim about their own postings that it was a "minor joke" to which "no one else took offense"?

Didn't think so.

Not interested in inflating things, merely seeking to raise the bar above the waistline.

A difficult task I see.
