Better Call Saul, the TV series

Hope he'll be alright and make a fast recovery. Not that it matters but when I read the news it mentioned he was 58. Wow, he looks great for 58. I watched him last month in the movie 'Nobody' which is one of the best films I have seen this year. He totally kicked ass in that movie.

His family is saying he’s in stable condition and okay but he had a “Heart related incident”. The language they’re using is “Bob won”.

Which makes it sound like he was in serious danger of not winning.

Odenkirk himself has now also tweeted:

Hi. It's Bob. Thank you. To my family and friends who have surrounded me this week. And for the outpouring of love from everyone who expressed concern and care for me. It’s overwhelming. But I feel the love and it means so much.

I had a small heart attack. But I'm going to be ok thanks to Rosa Estrada and the doctors who knew how to fix the blockage without surgery. Also, AMC and SONYs support and help throughout this has been next-level. I'm going to take a beat to recover but I'll be back soon.
Sounds like it was scary for a moment but he's doing much better already. It's good to know they didn't even have to do surgery. Here's hoping to a speedy recovery!

I'm doing a rewatch. In season three. I think I was crazy but I saw some kind of sheet on the Gene scene, and it appeared to have a 2019 date written on, even though the season was released in 2017.

Edit: I got a screenshot .It looks like it might be 2017....

I can't tell where you're seeing 2019 so I can't agree with you or not. It's a blur, really.

My reaction when I found out he was going to be okay.

A different version of that scene made the rounds after it was announced he was okay, where the dialogue was changed to "My little Bob Odenkirk." :wah:

Obviously it's impossible to assess someone's health or choices from behind a keyboard, but I wonder if all the training he did for Nobody had an impact on his health? :( (Having said that filming for Nobody was 18 months ago so maybe not)

Random thought today. Why would Saul/Jimmy mention getting placed in a new life in Kim's homestate out of all places (quite a distance from Kim's part of Nebraska I know but) during the end of breaking bad? Is she there now? Will something happen in season 6 that makes him feel the need to fulfill a wish of Kim's. "Gene" must be bored out of his mind in Omaha.

Yup, that's something some of us have been wondering for awhile now. I expect that will be addressed in the final season.

Rough time to resume shooting. We're experiencing our (hopefully last) late summer heatwave here in ABQ.

The New York Times published a profile on Bob Odenkirk today and, among other things, he talked about his heart attack. You don't need a subscription to read it but here's part of it:

“I’d known since 2018 that I had this plaque buildup in my heart,” Odenkirk said. “I went to two heart doctors at Cedars-Sinai, and I had dye and an M.R.I. and all that stuff, and the doctors disagreed” on treatment, with one suggesting he start immediately on medication and the other telling him it could wait. He listened to doctor No. 2 and was fine — until this year, when “one of those pieces of plaque broke up,” Odenkirk said. “We were shooting a scene, we’d been shooting all day, and luckily I didn’t go back to my trailer.” Instead, he decamped to a space where he, Seehorn and Fabian liked to retreat during downtime: “I went to play the Cubs game and ride my workout bike, and I just went down.” He added, “Rhea said I started turning bluish-gray right away.”

The soundstages “Better Call Saul” calls home are “massive,” Odenkirk said. After a few agonizingly long minutes, the show’s health safety supervisor, Rosa Estrada, and an assistant director, Angie Meyer, arrived, administering CPR and hooking him up to an automated defibrillator. It zapped him once, then once more, producing an irregular pulse that quickly disappeared. “The third time,” Odenkirk said, “it got me that rhythm back.”

An ambulance took him to Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, “and around 5 a.m. the next morning they went through right here” — Odenkirk showed me a scar on his wrist — “and blew up the little balloons and knocked out that plaque and left stents in two places.” Later that morning, Odenkirk’s wife and children arrived in Albuquerque, staying with him at the hospital as he recovered for the next week.

Odenkirk has no memory of any of this. He cobbled together his account from Seehorn and the others who helped save his life.

“That’s its own weirdness,” Seehorn said. “You didn’t have a near-death experience — you’re told you had one.”
The whole piece is pretty long and I'm still reading it, but I figured I share at least that part of it right now.

Damn, I could've sworn I put the link to article in my post but I guess not. It's there now. Sorry about that. :o
