They seem looser, baggier, and probably more comfortable.... there's nothing worse than a too-tight shirt.

Best? Probably the early 2nd season period publicity photos (#1), and the same period of episodes. TAS almost certainly designed their Kirk uniform from the fit from Shatner at that time.

The third season, the uniforms looked well tailored, polished and professional. No shrinkage as the season wore on. But I have to say, I - really - liked the early first season look. For some reason, the closer grouping of Kirk's rank braids appeal to me. I can understand why they changed it, it probably looked like a clump of shiny cuff on small screens with fuzzy pictures. But I also really loved Kirk's wrap around from that year. The rank on his collarbone was lovely.
