best DUDE haird-doo

BTW, about the Damar hangover picture...I actually had a serious comment to make about that scene. Unlike a lot of depictions of drunkenness that make it look funny or otherwise "attractive," I applaud that depiction for showing just how ugly the problem of alcoholism can be, and just what a toll it can take on a person's life. There was absolutely nothing glamorous or funny about that hangover. And that was a good thing.

You're absolutely right. Really - and I'm being sincere here - this is one case where the hair is pretty darn important. I mean...a dishevelled Cardassian! I don't know if we ever saw anything else quite like it.

I think we've occasionally seen Dukat or Garak look a bit disheveled when they've been in a fight (or when Dukat's going stark raving mad)...but never anything to this extent. I mean, the facial expression, and even the lighting they used in this scene...I think it was really meant to play up the dark side of addiction, and the self-loathing that for Damar, was at the root of it.

^ That's it really. Damar had made (or been forced into) a very diffcult situation, he was supposed to lead his people but he had failed to do so. It was mostly because he knew that the 'alliance' with the Dominion was wrong but there was little he could do about it. (did he drink on the Groumall or Dukat's BoP? There may have been a sub conscious distrust of his 'mentor' prehaps). It's a true shame that he never served under someone like Macet.

Damar was a man with a massive inferiority complex and it was well portrayed and written.

Hmmm, much as I hesitate to disagree (only slightly!) with our resident Cardassians, I think it might have gone even a little deeper than an inferiority complex. He was a man who...lost his way. Lost himself, really. Whether the inferiority complex exacerbated that loss or the loss exacerbated the inferiority complex, I don't know. But it wasn't just "I'm not good enough." There was an element in there, I think, of "What is left of me?"

Wow... you guys actually managed to turn a RobertScorpio thread about best dude haircuts into a serious discussion. :cardie: :rommie: :techman:

Hmmmm..I'm not sure how to take that...WINK WINK...

But it is a good discussion going on here about alcoholism...

Rob

I meant to offence :) But somehow I just don't think that you intended to spark an in-depth debate about alcoholism and self-loathing when you started the thread. :p

I think you're right to disagree with us. It seems that you have hit the nail on the head with your theory. I know a fair bit about Inferiority complex's, having procession of one myself, and a sense of lost is perhaps the driving force. You basically feel that you cannot succeed at anything and that you have betrayed yourself and those around you. It's truly soul crushing and quite often you do something quite negative to deal with it, Damar turned to drink and I ... pretend to be a Cardassian online.
