best DUDE haird-doo

I was watching WRATH OF KHAN this weekend, and I came to this conclusion. I like KHAN's hair-doo. I'm pretty sure it was a wig, since Ricardo was doing Fantasy Island at the time as well, but I like the look of his hair. It has that 80s blow-dried look, and ever really gets messy, and keeps that wind-swept look through-out. I have decided to grow my hair out and try to do it naturally, though I am sure it will take years.

Upon hearing I wanted to grow my hair out (i usally keep it short) my wife asked me whats next? An ear-ring? Hmmmmmm...just no tatoos!

What about you? What dudes do you think had good hair-doos?

Rob

I thought Khan's hair in TWOK was awful.

It's hard to think of a really great hairstyle on ST... Sisko's and Picard's baldness might actually be the best "hairstyle" (although Picard didn't shave the hair on the sides... so I'd have to go with Sisko's completely shaved head), but it worked for them - it wouldn't work for everyone!

Yeah, the men's hair (aside from that of Picard and Sisko) tends to have this over-moussed, over-blow-dried, over-styled look. I know the women's did, too, but the thing is, I like the natural look for men, whether they're on TV or not. I don't like guys to look as though they took longer to get dressed than I do. And a lot of the Trek men looked, from the neck up, as though they were ready to play a part on a soap opera, and no, I don't consider that a compliment.

I mean, Riker's hair, for example, didn't look much more natural than Data's, and Data was an android. That says something right there.

But let's see if I can come up with somebody who had hair to style...

Well, just to give poor Robert something to work with besides bald men, how about Sarek as played by Mark Lenard? That bowl-cut look that so many Romulans and Vulcans favor doesn't look good on most people, but Mark Lenard could pull it off. He didn't look half-bad as the Romulan commander, either. Well, actually, Mark Lenard always looked MUCH better than "not half bad" - Nimoy isn't the only reason why I've always had such a crush on Vulcans and Romulans :rommie: - so what I should say is that the haircut didn't look half-bad.

You wonder about the oddest things, Rob. ;)

I totally agree..until TNG's era of Romulans. From there on, when I think the wigs took over, it lost 'it' for me.

You have a point there - the bowl-cut worked for Lenard - he's one of the few men you can say that about!

But I think that Spock was hot more despite the bowl cut than because of it... And it was unfortunate for Nimoy that he had to wear it all the time, because it didn't work for him in real life! Every other haircut that he had pre-Trek suited him much better. I was scared what a bowl haircut would look like on Quinto - I was used to his Sylar look - but it works surprisingly well.

Oh, I agree - Nimoy transcended that haircut. In fact, in spite of Rob's comment about TNG Romulans, I have to say that the bowl cut was used a LOT for TOS Vulcans, too - and this didn't do any of them any favors, either. The only person I can think of that it looked good on was Mark Lenard (and no doubt even he could have had a more flattering haircut - anybody besides me remember him in Here Come the Brides?). Think of all those guys in "Amok Time"...not good, not good at all.

Indeed, at least the Cardassians had the excuse of living in a totalitarian society to explain why they all sported the same hairstyle (they did manage to pull it off quite well mind you).

They did. But it would be very hard to pick who had the best "dude" hairdo since they all had (as far as I can remember) exactly the same one. I mean, exactly.

Well, just for a laugh here is a hungover Cardassian during a bad hair day.

As for which Cardassian would win the vote for best hair? I assumed give what the other threads indicate that it would be Gul Dukat himself.

I have to say that I've never judged the male characters by their hair (or lack thereof) just by the content of their characterization.

Yes, what's up with all those alien races in Trek? Cardassians, Romulans, Vulcans, Klingons... Their cultures are so uniform that the entire planet wears exactly the same haircut! :wtf:

At least Vulcan and Romulan women had some variety in TOS... but since then, they've also been sporting the same haircut as their men!

"Content of their characterizations"? Ooh, nice political pun, old chum!

Well, sure that's the most important thing, but what can I say? Nuthin' wrong with having something nice to look at while I enjoy all those characterizations, right?

Yeah. You see the occasional exception, but not very often. I'll bet they don't have shoe closets either.

There is a reason for the Cardassians uniformity:

The standard Cardassian hairstyle is a copy of Tret Alkeens own style,(Tret Alkeen being the original founder of the Union) and is therefore worn that way in tribute.

But...

wouldn't a nice plaque or statue be better? I mean, we in the U.S. don't all style our hair like George Washington's wig!

And thank god for that;)

I think that it helps regiment the people if they all had to wear the same hair and creates a join sense of unity.

I'm just glad we Brits don't have to do this sort of thing with our royalty...

Would introducing a good hairdresser to those alien cultures constitute a violation of the Prime Directive? :vulcan:

Hair that I would like to have, either Bashier or Tucker.

Interesting hair, cannot think of any. ST keeps putting men in skull heads or short and basic. Except for the Klingons who vear towards 80's big hair rock stars.

Maybe not, but then we're not in an Orwellian-style totalitarian society. I think under those sorts of extreme conditions, something like that, which may otherwise seem outrageous, can very well take root.

BTW, about the Damar hangover picture...I actually had a serious comment to make about that scene. Unlike a lot of depictions of drunkenness that make it look funny or otherwise "attractive," I applaud that depiction for showing just how ugly the problem of alcoholism can be, and just what a toll it can take on a person's life. There was absolutely nothing glamorous or funny about that hangover. And that was a good thing.
