Best Ass Chewing

I did this thread a few years back, but was inspired to revisit it by watching the TNG's Gambit recently. Rather than dredge up a zombie thread, I thought I'd just reboot it for fun.

I thought Data's dressing down of Worf, for smarting off and a general lack of respect was a great moment. It really did show Data's command ability and overall growth as an officer. It also showed that Worf was professional to get read the riot act, take it in stride and clean up his act.

What are your favorites?

Another Data one, but to Lt. Cmdr. Hobson on the Sutherland. It takes a special kind of @$$hole to get bitched out by an android!

I'm not sure which is the best, and I am not sure who was on the receiving end, but I am pretty sure it came from Sisko!

^Sisko's dressing-down to O'Brien for helping Tosk was awesome, mostly because of the smile on his face afterwards.

I was totally expecting something else when I clicked on this thread.

I recall Sisko verbally dressing Worf down a couple of times.

Well, if anybody was culturally and emotionally suited for taking a good airing out, it was definitely Worf!

Like many others, the first one that came to mind for me was Data putting Hobson in his place. Other favourites:

1) Sisko scolding Jadzia and Worf for the suicide ritual Worf tries to do with Kurn. I really don't like that episode and where it leaves the Kurn character in the end, but this one part is classic. Sisko yells about how he's bent the rules for both of them due to respect for Klingon culture, but this is crossing the line. When Jadzia says it won't happen again, he replies "You're DAMN right it won't!".

2) Picard's rant to Wesley Crusher in "The First Duty" -

"The first duty of every Starfleet officer is to the truth, whether it's scientific truth or historical truth or personal TRUTH! It is the GUIDING principle on which Starfleet is based! And if you can't find it within yourself to stand up and tell the truth about what happened, you don't deserve to wear that uniform!".

Under any circumstances, those words would be fantastic, but what makes the speech so awesome is Patrick Stewart's delivery. I love the way he emphasizes those words I capitalized.

3) Riker and Jellico basically calling each other shitty officers was such a pleasure to watch. "You've got everyone wound so tight[...]I don't think you're a particularly good captain!".

4) Shelby accusing Riker of basically being a pussy who can't take risks is fun as well. Gotta admire her guts.

5) Barclay standing up to Riker on the Holodeck by calling him a "mannequin". :guffaw:

6) Most of my favourite Jadzia moments involve her being playful or funny, but one harsh instance I really enjoyed was her calling Bashir out on his overconfidence in "The Quickening" -

Julian: "I was so arrogant, I thought I could find [the cure] in a week!"
Jadzia: "Maybe it was arrogant to think that. But it's even more arrogant to think there isn't a cure just because you couldn't find it."

7) I love the exchange between Sisko and Eddington when Eddington reveals he has betrayed Starfleet. His raving about Starfleet being worse than the Borg is enthralling and it's so great that all Sisko says in response is that he doesn't give a shit about what Eddington thinks and is going to hunt him down and capture him for being a traitor no matter what.

8) It's cruel and it makes me feel bad for her because I like Ezri, but I can't deny Garak's insults in "Afterimage" are pretty damn riveting to watch. "Now get out of here, before I say something unkind!" WTF? He had already verbally ripped her heart out at the point, and he hasn't said anything "unkind" yet? :rommie:

Kirk's dressing down of a group of officers standing at attention in The Trouble with Tribbles.

Followed by Scotty thanking Kirk for restricting him to quarters, so he can catch up on his technical journals.

These were also pretty cool:

Sisko could be so damned threatening.

Picard letting Ro have it was pretty good. "This is NOT a discussion, Ensign!" Picard knew how to drop the hammer with the best of them.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Picard threatening Riker with re-evaluating the command structure of the Enterprise in "The Pegasus"

Both from ENT:

- Forrest, to Archer and Robinson, in "First Flight", after they've gotten back to Starfleet Command after stealing the experimental warp ship

- Archer to Trip, in "Cogenitor"

2) Picard's rant to Wesley Crusher in "The First Duty" -

"The first duty of every Starfleet officer is to the truth, whether it's scientific truth or historical truth or personal TRUTH! It is the GUIDING principle on which Starfleet is based! This. Its delivered with all the power and skill of a famous Shakespearean actor. And the result is wonderful. It also has a special power in that its unusual. Picard doesn't routinely raise his voice. In fact, I can't think of another time off the top of my head. (Except for First Contact)

So that all creates a sort-of perfect storm.
