I still like the show, but let's face it, I watched even Haven up to about episode 9, and the Deja Vu feel is definitely intensifying. Starting to wonder whether the subtle changes to the storyline are payoff enough. Really really hoping for that divergence point.

Re: Being Human - American remake on SyFy - Season 1 discussion & spoi

I never "got" Haven and couldn't make it past episode 5. I still don't know what that show's really even about to be honest.

Being Human [US] seems okay so far, but then again I haven't watched Being Human [UK] yet so who knows.

It's very whiny. Is the UK version this whiny?

^ No.

After reading bits and pieces (and clips on youtube) it looks like the us version is running the same sort of story as the uk first season. right?

and Being Human (uk) is being shown on BBCAmerican too these days as part of their 'Supernatural Saturdays'

So that is gonna make comparisions that much easier.

Re: Being Human - American remake on SyFy - Season 1 discussion & spoi

I don't like it. I tried the first episode, and the latest one. The style is just too emo for me, and the constant background music trying to make the show cool is annoying as hell.

Re: Being Human - American remake on SyFy - Season 1 discussion & spoi

For the latest episode on Valentines day. Maybe people were too busy to watch the show.

Being Human (SYFY, 9pm)
- 1.086 million viewers
- 0.7/1 HH
- 0.4/1 A18-49

In case you were wondering, this is about what SGU had ratings-wised. This show has got to be cheaper to produce than SGU though.

^Not quite to the same degree I think. At least it had something of a sense of humour and an element of the absurd about it.

True, which might be it's saving grace, but I doubt it. SGU did get those numbers and worse, but not until it's second season, while this is Being Human's fifth episode we're talking about. I can't imagine Syfy wanted to renew based on that trend, the numbers really have fallen off a cliff.

It's a shame about the ratings; I've been liking this more and more every week. It's refreshing to see a drama actually written for adults, and I like the idea of a show following everyday life in a world where the supernatural exists.

Well if the US version gets cancelled I'd definitely recommend checking out the UK version if you're enjoying it.

Oddly enough I've had the first two series of Being Human UK "sitting on my shelf" for quite awhile now. Still haven't found the energy to watch them after having watched the original pilot.

How much does the UK series differ from it's original pilot?

The kinda lightened the tone a little, the story in the pilot is backstory for the series but it's kinda no longer canon because of the cast change. It still gets very dark in places but the tone is broadly similar to the American version.

I may do that now that I'm interested. I remember seeing ads for it on BBC America and seeing one of the actors from Primeval on it, which kind of turned me off. I couldn't really get into Primeval because of the casting, even though I liked the concept.

I don't think there's anyone in Being Human that was in Primeval... No one that major anyway.

Really? Maybe he just looked similar. I could have sworn the young guy was the same one. I'll have to look it up.

There may have been a guest start at one time or another that I'm not remembering, but I don't think so. Russell Tovey and Lenora Crichlow have both been in Doctor Who though.

It was on the commercial that was advertising the concept of the show-- it must have been just coming to BBC America. I could have sworn the young sidekick guy on Primeval was one of the main cast members, but I'm obviously wrong. Weird.

Maybe they were just showing clips from a few different shows?
