BATTLESTAR URANTIA - nuBSG FanFilm Series

Oh, I get that some people might not be a huge fan of it, but when you basically just say that it's really ugly, you're not putting it in the most tactful way, ya know? There are more polite ways of voicing issues with the name.

But since the topic has FINALLY been brought up... I'll tell you all about the origin of the ship's name...

IDK how many people here have ever heard of anything called "The Urantia Book", but I stumbled across it one day during a Google search. Now I myself have never even read the book, let alone know all about what it may be about... but when I saw the word "Urantia"... I felt it was a perfect BSG ship name... it sounded unique, like it could be a name from another world, and it had that BSG "antia" sound to it. So, I chose that name for the ship.

LOL... aye, that Urantia Book. And yeah, once I found out it meant "Earth", it was even more of a perfect choice, since the end of Urantia deals directly with the events of "Daybreak" in BSG.

Not really. The issue is that it is ugly. To say it differently would be to not say what the problem is.

It's ugly for the same reason the made up name, "Gilrornio" is ugly. The combination of letters just feel awkward. By themselves, "Ura" and "-ntia" are fine, but they don't belong together.

Good for you, Bolian! Dismiss all the nay sayers who forget to add IMO to their stupid postings. Let them keep their opinions, and you keep going!

You're all right, it is his call. I too am really looking forward to seeing this. I can't wait to watch Battlestar Urination.

Yes, let's ignore other people's opinions, because it's not like BolianAdmiral wants to appeal to his potential audience, right?

Dude... so far you're the ONLY person who has even said anything negative to me about the name at all. And I'm not holding a gun to your head to watch this... I mean, yes, I like to satisfy my audience, but I would HOPE that that satisfaction comes from the content of the story, and not the sound of a ship's name. Not everybody will like everything I do... that is just a simple fact. I gave my reasons for choosing the name, so there you have it.

As for reptilian Cylons... I'm sorry, no... but we will see the Earth Cylons, as well as some "Centurions" from Kobol, in some flashbacks.

I can say that right now, we are working on something VERY special to show you all, as a teaser... I won't reveal too much, but it will feature TRUE Mk. I Vipers. :) I hope to have some new test stills to show you soon. Keep checking in... we are moving forward!

Thanks to everyone who supports the name. :)

There are three new characters in the series, per the revised script...

CASTOR AMOS

Castor Amos is the operator of the nightclub/casino on the ringship, the Star of Picon. If you imagine the owner of Studio 54 from the movie, that's basically the type of person Castor Amos is. People from the ships of the fleet go to his club to escape the dreary day-to-day routine of life on their liners, and also indulge their vices. Castor Amos is from the colony of Virgon.

"ONE-SHOT"

One-Shot is a standup comedian on the ringship Star of Picon, and performs at Castor Amos's nightclub. One-Shot is known for his loud and annoying voice, and flamboyant dress. His routines frequently poke fun at Standish's inability to get the fleet home with any great speed, and the fleet's continuing encounters with the Cylons. If you mix Gilbert Gottfried with David Letterman's jabs at former President George W. Bush, you get One-Shot.

KANGAS MacKENZIE

Kangas MacKenzie is the commanding officer of the Colonial Gunstar Cydonia. In the original version of the story, this character was Commander Darryl McAllister, of the Gunstar Liberator. Kangas MacKenzie is from the colony of Picon.

More to come soon. :)

Of course it is your choice what you want to call it. I was referring specifically to the "dismiss what other people think" attitude (not yours). Obviously that's a bad idea, whether or not people's opinions are positive or negative.

Fair be it. As I said, I would HOPE that you judge my series by the quality of writing, acting, and presentation, and not a ship's name. Content is what counts.

Getting back on topic, I am now putting out a casting call for the following TWO roles:

ERIK HINDRI

Erik Hindri is the Urantia's Officer of the Watch, and is in his 30's. I am looking for an actor who fits that age, with dark hair.

GRAE AZAIRE

Grae Azaire is Urantia's CAG. She is in her mid 20's, and has long black hair. Candidate actress should fit the age.

If anyone is interested, you can PM me, or post here, in this thread. Please provide a photo, and a link to a sample of your work. Thank you.

It sounds a little like urine or urethra, but other than that it isn't any sillier sounding than Battlestar Galactica.

The CGI looks nice.
