I guess he must really be a good actor, given how well he can do charming onscreen…
Off the top of my head, and without Googling, I remember he guest starred in an episode of Walker Texas Ranger.Without googling, could you name any other role in his career aside from The A-Team and BSG..?![]()
The creator of the show wanted Dirk Benedict for 'Face', some suit at the Network didn't (those were the days of networks making a contract with an actor and paying them whether they worked on a show or not -and the first actor had such a deal so NBC wanted to use him for the part.)I seem to recall a story that Hollywood (or maybe just NBC) didn't want Benedict in the A-Team. He isn't in the pilot after all, but the character of "Face" was written with him in mind.
I think something similar happened with BSG with ABC wanting someone else, I believe it was Barry Van Dyke the actor who would play Not-Starbuck aka Dillon in G80, and Glen Larson wanting Benedict. The creator of the show wanted Dirk Benedict for 'Face', some suit at the Network didn't (those were the days of networks making a contract with an actor and paying them whether they worked on a show or not -and the first actor had such a deal so NBC wanted to use him for the part.)
In the end, after the pilot, even the NBC suits said that the actor looked to young (at the time) to pull of the 'I'm a Vietnam War veteran"; so they then went with Dirk as the creators wanted for the actual series run.
In fairness, both Starbucks were perfectly cast.
He’s probably my favorite all-time DSC character. It’s a shame we only got to see him for one season. I suppose there is hope of seeing him again in the new SFA series. Fingers crossed…
Nope!Is this thing still alive?
Is this thing still alive?

Dirk Benedict Attack On Starbuck
I don't know if anyone else read this...This is a piece that Dirk Benedict (The original Starbuck) wrote back in May 2004 for "Dreamwatch" magazine. These are his insights on the topic of his "Starbuck" being changed to a female for the new Scifi version. He seems like a complete sexist and jealous…bsg-news.livejournal.com
