Barry Jenner

Totally. But I also liked the various little moments we get in the episode, such as Ross trying Romulan Ale for the first time.

It's interesting to compare that scene with the one in which Ross is drinking Klingon bloodwine with Sisko. The admiral must not have been much of a party-goer.

Which reminds me of another favourite Ross moment, the scene where him and Sisko are partaking in a Klingon ritual with Martok and Ross gets noticeably distressed when he realizes he has to slash his palm with a knife.

Very sad. Looking back he might be the only Star Trek actor to have played an Honest, non Duplicitous, non asshole Admirral. Seemingly a very rare thing. I can't think of any others like him save perhaps Kirk's brief stint. (And if anyone points out the Bloodthirsty psychopath being promoted in Nemesis, I will beat you.)
Janeway and Paris...okay just Paris

I grieve with his family. He seemed like a great guy and had some pretty good roles.

Gotta go watch Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges now.

:(

The only other thing I can think of him being in outside of DS9 was Family Matters

I'm sure I've seen him in something else as well, but I can't think of any.
He was on Dallas for two seasons as the doctor (and best friend) of fellow DS9 guest star John Beck.

I didn't watch Dallas. I was a bit too young for most of its run. I was born early in its run. I could have gotten into it during the last few seasons I suppose, but I didn't.

Just checked. Jenner was on Dallas during the mid-1980s. No way in hell I would have been watching it

I'll give you Paris... so long as you weren't related to him. Janeway... ummm... yeah no. Janeway is the Starfleet example of incompetence psychosis and evil rising to its maximum point of destructive capabilities.

Damn. I was only recently watching Inter Arma Silent Leges and was reminded how awesome Admiral Ross was.

I think I remember fretting for Bashir's safety after getting wrapped up in Section 31, only to be relieved when Admiral Ross believes him about Sloan and does some digging around of his own. Kind of like, if you're a little kid and you're scared and in trouble, but the one adult who comes for you just happens to be your friend's parent or something. Someone who's a real authority and can do something substantial about the problem, even if you two aren't really close. Of course, then there's the part when it turns out that Ross is a Section 31 sympathizer, which made that turn away from relief a bit more shocking. And Jenner played Ross -- with all his twists and turns -- like a fiddle. He was just absolutely great.

It was nice to have an admiral that you saw more than once. It seemed that in TNG there was always a revolving door of admirals, with few that I can remember even being in more than one episode.

Terrible news.
Mr.Jenner brought a gravitas and dependability to the (originally)small role of Ross,so much so that the character grew to become a recurring part.
RIP.

He did an episode of Starman in 1986. Do you remember that?

I believe Admiral Ross was only meant to be seen for the opening arc of season 6. But everyone liked Barry Jenner in the role so much they brought him back by the end of the season and made him recurring throughout the seventh season.

I remember him as Abby's ex husband in Knots Landing and later as Mark Grayson's best friend in Dallas. RIP Barry.
