Bar 'n' Grill - Part II

Well, since I'm not cooking around here much anymore, I'll order up something :D Hmm, so many choices. Where's the buffet table?!??!?

Congrats BigFoot  That's a feat I'll probably never achieve. Well, maybe before the decade's out....

I saw Good Night & Good Luck this weekend. The theater was packed, prolly cause of Harry Potter fans (I didn't even realize the movie was out ), but there was actually a good showing for this movie too. It was quite deep. I love the correlation made between the "shock" tv of the 50s (McCarthy accusing everyone of being communist) and all the fluff on tv today vying for attention. The journalist's plea of being dedicated to quality, important television is just as poignant today. I just wish more journalists (among others) today were making the same plea.

It was a mostly quiet film, with some wonderful jazz numbers and good use of black & white and shades. Probably the most shocking thing about this movie is the total lack of anything "shocking". No explosions, sex, violence, surprising twists... just a serious dramatic piece. And I think that shocked me more than anything ;) I realize how inundated I am with explosions, sex, violence, surprising twists... and how refreshing this movie was for my pallette.

Well, that's my review. Figured I'd post it here, in my fav place to "sling the gagh" as they say . I wonder if anyone else around here has seen or will see it?

Sorry, just had to share. Found this lovely pic of Nicole while googling just now:

Well, she looks real cute in that red dress in your av, but "makes us forget about that other Dax"??? Um, no...

But I guess we shouldn't have that conversation here :D

Hey, I didn't write it.

Seriously though, I don't agree with that. Despite my feelings for Ezri/Nicole, I did like the character of Jadzia and did miss her from the show. And she should have been in the montage at the end of What You Leave Behind .

Jammer, if you're reading this, and you think you have to make the S4 review of ENT less thorough, one way to go about it would be to skimp on the capsule recaps which are retreading things you've already said on the episodic level. I'd divert most of the attention onto the general summary.

So I had an eventful 24 hours. I hurt my right hand pretty bad yesterday, so when I went to my doctor today they told me I broke one of the bones in my pinky. So I'm back home right now, typing and using the mouse with only my left hand lol.

I just hope I get to keep my job, cos either I won't be able to work at all, or my productivity is gonna go way down. Either way, the deal with my job is that they hired me temporarily for three months, and then if they like me they would hire me permanently. Well, the three months will be up at the end of the month, so I really hope that they'll still want to keep me.

I know that there are a few B5 fans on here. How worthwhile is it to get season 5? I can probably get it for about £20 on ebay.

Get it. :D

The first part of the season is a bit...ordinary...but the rest is up there with just about anything else in the series. And you have to see "Sleeping in Light".

Get it. :D

I heartily agree. Sleeping in Light is one of the best final episodes ever. It's beautiful, poignant, and... well it's just brilliant.

There are quite a few other good episodes and the season as a whole is not as bad as is often made out to be.

*tentatively wanders in*

Hello all ... newbie here! *snags a glass of kanar*

Um, I got into DS9 earlier this year when a friend of mine started buying the box sets. Completly fell in love with it, and started taping the episodes off Sky One, despite their completely arbitary episode omissions and cut scenes ... (cannot afford box sets yet!). And recently watched WYLB on Sky for the first time, and cried my eyes out.

Also, I've developed a slight obsession with Cardassians, so am very intrigued by the prospect of Dsz's "Cardassian Love Slave" program - especially if it's got Damar in it. *gets Ferengi friend ready to haggle for it on her behalf* Hee.

Other shows I like are Lost, Frasier (I heart Niles), a Spanish series called Cuentame Como Paso, and one I think you guys would like (if you haven't seen it that is, it's a British series and might not get shown in the USA) ... Spaced.

It's nice to meet you all!!! :)

Hello there Llanita. :) Welcome to the bar!

Just to let you know, newbies have to buy everyone a round...... only kiddin'.

What DS9 seasons/episodes have you seen so far?

As for Spaced, I've seen it (but then I do live in the UK) and think it's great. It's nice to find someone else who likes it.

Where are my manners?? *buys everyone a round* *realises she's in debt up to her neck-ridges* Ehhhh ... oh well. *swigs kanar*

Thanks, Blade Runner! I've managed to see all seven seasons by now (combination of my friend's box sets, and Sky One), though I missed a few eps due to Sky (grrarrgggrrrr)! Saw the Final Chapter only recently ... made my mum watch it too just so I could have someone to rave at with things like "Oh my God! The Breen! The Breen!" and similar incoherent fangirl outbursts.

Really want to read the novels now - particularly A Stitch in Time, which I hope to buy soon ... Have you read it, or any of the others? And if so, what did you think? :)

Spaced is great, isn't it? I really wanna get the box set - half my friends don't know it, they need converting! It's just extra fun if you're a sci-fi fan and can get that bit of the humour as well as the general anarchy!

Shall we start a "which books do you like?" part of this thread as well ...? :D

Welcome to the friendliest place in the verse Llanita. The Canar here is quite good, isn't it? *burp*

I just finished watching Buffy's season 6 again and I was wondering how you guys liked it. It's been bashed so many times over the years but I honestly don't know why. It's one of Buffy's best seasons IMO. I'm a Spike fan though, maybe that's why I like it so much. Any comments?

BTW, what's Spaced about? Is it any good and should I give it a try?

*grabs a Raktajino 'cos it's late*

Llanita - Hope you can track down the few eps you missed. None of the biggies I hope.

I have the Spaced boxset (the one with the spoof Star Wars cover :D ) and like you, am trying to convert people to it in the same way I'm trying to convert everyone I can to Firefly. You watch that by any chance?

I'm reading the DS9 relaunch novels set after WYLB, and they have been consistently excellent, but A Stitch in Time is one of the best. They introduce some wonderful new characters as well as taking the one's we love in new and exciting directions. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

DsZ - you can find a bit about Spaced here. It's from the people who brought us Shaun of the Dead, but it's a series.

I liked season 6 of Buffy too. In fact there's not a season I really dislike. :D

Welcome to the board Llanita. :)

Well, I can't say I've seen anything worth of value since Potter, but I am seriously thinking about going to see Walk the Line tomarrow as kind of a it's the weekend and I don't want to come home thing after school.
