Baffled: Problem with jpegs

For some reason, a book I've just transferred to the website isn't showing any of the .jpg files in a browser. All that's showing is a black box the size of the jpeg. The gifs work fine. I've got thousands of documents on the website and never had this problem with jpegs before. Any ideas?

And chance of a link? Is this a standard HTML page?

Could your FTP settings have got screwed up and uploaded the JPEGs as ASCII instead of Binary perhaps? That would cause them to become irretrievably corrupted. But it is very hard to say without being able to see the page itself.

What happens if you right click on the black box and try to save the image, does it download a JPG that is a big black box when you open it, or is there just no file there to download? Could just have the wrong path to the picture folder, that's the most obvious reason, but you probably already thought of that.

How did you output the pictures? 100% sure they are RGB etc?

Got it. The JPGs have an Epson colour profile embedded in them. Resave them from photoshop without the profile and problem should be solved.

You're my hero. Well if it works you are. Must be because of the scanner software. Can I get rid of it in GraphicConverter, since that's what I use?

Edit: okay I've answered my own question: just saved as generic.

No idea sorry, but I'll PM you the corrected images. I already tested it, it's definitely what's wrong, it's working now on my computer.

Berners-Lee said that if he had known it was going to be popular he would have left out a lot of the punctuation.
