Babylon 5

I hope that will change (or even that new commentaries will be included). If it's really just the episodes, then for me that's one more strike against this. :|

The blu-rays will be the same remaster made in 2020-2021 for HBO Max, which are now on Tubi, Roku Channel, and for purchase on most streaming sites (confirmed by JMS and other sources).

This means in 4:3, film elements in true HD, VFX upscaled from SD. Everything was also given a new color correction. They already look much better than the DVDs, and blu-ray will afford a higher bitrate than streaming (it's 21 discs), so I expect it to look pretty nice.

It does seem to be a bare-bones release: no extras, no Crusade, no movies other than The Gathering. But if you'd have asked me a few years ago if B5 would ever be remastered, let alone released on blu-ray, I would have thought no way. So for me just getting this at all is a huge win.

Is anyone going to see the Babylon 5 animated movie premiere? Would love to hear your thoughts
I'm planning on being there for both showings, I hope. Really, really looking forward to seeing it on the big screens. I'll even have a few 'party favors' (badge ribbons) to give out. If you'd like to see them, I posted a pic here

ETA: I just realized I've completely forgotten how to do spoiler tags here, Can somebody post that? Just in case. Thanks.

You can also do [.spoiler=The description goes here]The spoiler goes here[./spoiler], but we all know what we're talking about in this case.

You can also use the CODE tags to include code without having it be interpreted:

Code:
[spoiler=The description goes here]The spoiler goes here[/spoiler]

I'll probably shell out for the Blu-rays if they ever come to region B.

Or you could just click that little plus sign in the reply box at the bottom of the page (between 'media' and 'drafts') and then click 'spoiler', and it'll do most of the work for you.

Thanks, all.
Very quick non-spoiler reation to The Road Home.

It. Is. AMAZING!

The best way I can put it is that it does feel like coming home. There's humor you'll recognize, touching moments and a true Annoyance of Zathrii. More probably after I get home from the con, but I really very much enjoyed this film!

Good to hear!

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but when is it set? Or I should say, when is the framing story?

Well, we saw Sheridan & Delenn leave the Station for the new Interstellar Alliance in the trailer. But...
I'm not sure I'd call that a framing story as he doesn't seem to end up in the same place/time as he began.

Oh, and I forgot last night. While it's not as operatic or distinctive as Franke's music, the music in the movie does serve the story well.

That was one of. the first B5 episode I had ever seen. And it was the episode that hooked me into the series.
Hmm.... that makes me think....which episode would be the best to start someone one it (the Pilot might not... especially with Delenn's changes)

FWIW, B5 was the show my friends watched and I tolerated but barely paid attention to until I saw a Shadow ship on screen, at which point I exclaimed, "WTF is that???!!!???" So, if you're going to just get someone's attention, I might recommend a S2 episode where the Shadow vessels prominently appear. You might need to do a fair amount of exposition, and obviously you're not starting from anywhere near the beginning, but if you get someone hooked it's easier to convince them to go back to the beginning.

I still find "The Gathering" to be a bit plodding, and that's even after having seen the full series and recognizing the overall significance of it.

"THE LONG, TWILIGHT STRUGGLE" fits that bill... shows the Shadow ships and their capabilities really well, and you get wonderful music. Plus, excellent G'Kar scenes.

At the risk of pushing too hard on your spoiler, where would you place it for maximum effect if someone were doing a (basically) chronological watch? (No pressure to answer if it's a tricky one. I get the impression the viewer will get the most out of it if they've already seen all of B5.)

The DVDs look terrible. I have them.

I’ll buy this set once it goes on sale.

It’s…complicated. . Yes, you’ll get the most out of it if you’re familiar with the series, but that’s more for appreciating some lines and expressions. Everything needed for understanding the story is there if you’ve never seen the show.
