Babylon 5

Oh wow, the Amazon Prime Video version of Crusade is only $14.99 and the DVD is only $19.89 from Amazon. I was expecting, since it was older, that it was only going to be available at ridiculous prices from third party sellers. What kind of special features does the DVD have, enough to make it worth the extra $5?

Well, if Amazon ever decide to withdraw their version, you lose it despite having paid for it. Whereas with the DVD, you don't.

I was reading through the Crusade entry on the Babylon 5 Wiki, and it has Tracy Scoggins included in the cast list, was she a regular cast member?
Has JMS ever said anything about where the show would have gone in the long term if it had continued?

She showed up like two or three times IIRC, and was probably slated for more before the axe fell.
Showing up in the title credits is not always a "must appear in X episodes thing" and more of a "their agent made sure it was stipulated in their contract" thing. Also recall Keffer and Na'Toth were in the season 2 credits despite only being in a few episodes each, and the likes of Vir, Lennier and even Marcus wasn't in as many episodes per season as you might think.

Read that the Plague would have been solved early, and then deal with the left over Shadow Tech with the Earth Force. and that Captain Gideon would have "Died" and been IN the apocalypse Box. somehow. Wish he'd do a book or something.. but WB is not doing Diddly squat on it.. sadly..

Oh sure, but usually if they're in the main credits, then a character plays a pretty prominent role in the series.
One exception to this rule that I'm still curious about is Gotham's Renee Montoya and Harvey Dent actors. They started off as recurring, were promoted to regulars, and then only showed up for a couple more episodes each, before they completely disappeared.

Typically yes, being in the title credits (back when most shows still had those) does mean a given actor/role is prominent, but beyond the actual star(s) it's not actually an indicator of how frequently they actually show up. I've seen shows where a fairly well known veteran actor playing a recurring still rates being in the title credits. Why? Precisely because they're a big name and it's good for the show to advertise their involvement, and such personages expect prominent billing.
Like I said, it's a contract thing and I'm sure if you go digging for it, you'll find a lot more of these "exceptions" than you might expect, because they're not really exceptions at all.

Also, the order of billing and it's prefix (eg; "starring...", "featuring..." "with...", "and..." etc.) each have a very specific (usually union mandated) meaning in regards to number of appearances per season, payscale, special status etc.

Yes, there was a 5-year story worked (mostly) out. I can't recall it all, but I'm sure you can find it by googling.

Vaguely recall that Gideon gets killed and then resurrected using a copy of his consciousness that is stored in the box, Dureena disappears for a couple of episodes and returns with Technomage implants and a special sword, a cure is found for the Drakh plague but this cure is ethically compromised in in some way (requires taking a life to save a life perhaps -- as with the healing machine used on B5 and also with Technomage implants), the Excalibur crew go on the run because they threaten to expose Earthforce's use of Shadow tech, and they are also forced to turn to Al Bester for assistance. Not sure how it would all pan out over the 5 years.

I just watched a livestream with Boxleitner, Christian and Koenig a few days ago, and while memory is a fickle thing, Koenig claimed that he was basically all set to appear on Crusade just as the series got cancelled.

What might have been...

Yeah, I know it's all about the pay, but I still find some of it confusing when we get all of the different special credits. I know the people at the end with who are given a "with" or "and" credit are usually bigger names. One that's always stood out to me that Alyson Hannigan moved got an "and" credit for the last two seasons of Buffy, after being included with everybody else before that. I've always assumed because she had gotten a lot more popular and well known once the American Pie movies came out.
One that I've found odd is the fact that Johnathan Harris was credited as a "special guest star" in Lost in Space even though he was in every episode, and ended up one of the main focuses of the show.

Yes, I think that episode was called "VALUE JUDGMENTS" and it was already in the preproduction stage when the axe came down.
The script was online for a time.

The website wouldn't let you copy the text.

Years later I picked up a pdf, but I have no idea where I put it.

Diana Muldaur also got the 'special guest star' credit while she was on TNG.

I just double checked and her actual credit was 'Special Appearance By'. Same idea though.

I would LOVE to read that!

Regarding the other credits... another great example wss Heather Locklear on MELROSE PLACE. Once on the show, she was in virtually every episode. And Misha Collins on SUPERNATURAL got 'Special Guest Star' later on when he got hugely popular, until he became a regular and was added 'And' at the end.

So popularity among fandom definitely is a factor.

With Diana Muldaur, I think it was a request by the actress to not be in the main credits.
