Babylon 5

A couple years before CRUSADE happened, a war between Telepaths and Mundanes happened. Psi Corps ended up being disbanded. I don't think a lot of details were ever said onscreen, except that it cost Lyta her life. And I think I read that Lennier died in it, too.

What a shame we didn't get more! I liked Crusade, the limited number of episodes we got.

I loved CRUSADE. Preordered the dvd set as soon as I foubd out it was getting released years ago. The version I have is the first produced sets, which has a commentary on an episode where JNS is very candid about his TNT dealings. I forget which episode had it, though.

Really? I always thought the Psi Corps had pretty much carte blanche to scan whomever they wanted (both telepaths and non-telepaths), whenever they wanted, for whatever reason they felt like. I wasn't aware they operated under any rules, as such.
That was mostly Psi-Cops (and then, mostly Bester) who didn't think rules applied to them. Lower-level telepaths had to color within the lines.

How much of a time gap is there between B5 and Crusade? I though Crusade picked up right after the end of the present day B5 storyline.

I think it was 5 years after the events of "Objects at Rest".

Objects at Rest. Sunday September 6th - Friday September 11th 2262.

A Call to Arms. December 17 to December 30, 2266.

Drakh plague released on Earth was December 28, 2266.

Crusade Episode: War Zone takes place from January 1 to January 5, 2267.

I guess I had this mental image that all Psi Corps are Psi Cops. I'm going to hazard a guess that isn't true.
Psi Cops were all elite telepaths (rated P-12) tasked with policing their own....officially. The majority of Psi Corps were either commercial teeps like Talia and Lyta (P-5s or P-6s), or administrative workers who's abilities either barely registered or were not up to commercial standards (the P-1s to P4s.) Needless to say the higher the rating the fewer of them there were.

And no, they couldn't just scan whomever, whenever. The whole point of the Corps was that it was supposed to regulate, control telepaths. Additionally there were very specific laws about the use of telepathy in things like contract negotiations (mostly pay rates and a requirement of informed consent by all parties), criminal cases (telepathic testimony is inadmissible in court, they can only help victims access memories), and the military (prohibited.)

In practice of course, any organisation in a position of power and allowed to self-police and self-regulate is bound to become corrupt over time, and abuses were the norm. For the most part, the mundane authorities probably looked the other way so long as it only involved teeps...and those that looked too closely probably woke up with a slight headache and a strong compulsion not to bother the Corps ever again.

OK, thanks.
I still need to check out Crusade some time. I've been curious about it since I watched B5 years ago, and I did watch A Call to Arms, but I've just never gotten around to watching the series.

I don't remember being that excited by Crusade, but it was more steady than the first season of B5.

However, I found the soundtrack a constant distraction. :|

Oh wow, the Amazon Prime Video version of Crusade is only $14.99 and the DVD is only $19.89 from Amazon. I was expecting, since it was older, that it was only going to be available at ridiculous prices from third party sellers. What kind of special features does the DVD have, enough to make it worth the extra $5?

The soundtrack was jarring at first. But they were trying to be different, and I give them credit for that.

I want to...but I just can't. I'm left wondering who was in a position to weigh in on it, and what the decision-making process ultimately involved. I believe there's a time and place for any kind of music, but that wasn't the time or place for that kind of music. My opinion, of course, but every time I think about it, even years later, I cringe.
