From this thread over on Reddit. It's interesting how history doesn't repeat but seems to form patterns of the same kind of things, like the political officer on the left and the press secretary on the right. Both seem to be a type. I think it's called the Fox News Look. Just it's so cool and eerie how B5 nailed that look.

Blonde newsreader type hardly began with B5 or FOX.

How is B5 history again?

Political Officer looks a bit Hilary Clinton.

I see exactly what you're getting at. Autocratic leaders thinking the uneducated masses are so ignorant they'll trust anything told to them by a traditionally attractive face. Sad thing is, they're right. Same thing applies to advertising as well which uses the same techniques refined by numerous nations in WW2.

Should intimating a 20-something professional woman is a whore happen regularly?

I didn't go to Reddit, but the poster of the above posted nothing of the kind.

What should offend you is when these folks get up at podiums and lie to your face while wearing a symbol of a religion that supposedly frowns upon lying.

I'm also trying to figure out where the implication of anyone being a whore ever came up in this thread? Talk about an over-reaction.

Of any show, it's damn near impossible to talk about Bablyon 5 and not bring up politics in some fashion.

What's the Don Henley 1980s song lyric?...

"...we have the bubble headed bleach blonde, comes on at five...She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye..."

In the show "Julie Musante" had a nude scene and tried to seduce Sheridan, less than an hour after meeting him.

But as my saintly departed grandmother often used to say "the only difference between a slut and a whore, is that a whore gets paid" but we as a culture, have moved on from such hurtful sentiments.

It seemed like Julie was just being really friendly with the man most likley to help her career advance, which is why the head cheerleader always hooks up with the captain of the football team, but her forward poisitoning also may have been part of her official job remit to make sure that John got in line with President Clark's program, using all the tools at her disposal, which is exactly what the Voirlons did with DeLenn and the Shadows did with Anna.

PS

Julie did say to John in confidence that Clarke had "rewritten the dictionary" so she was not an idiot.

The character being compared to the press secretary in the OP fucked people to win them over to her side.

But would it really have worked?

If Julie and John had had sex 100 times, I doubt that he would have seen the light, and transformed into a Stalwart Clarke supporter... Of course if they had had sex 100 times, that would have either been a very busy night, or Julie would have still been on the station during Severed Dreams and it would have been...

SHE WOULD HAVE HAD A VOTE ON WHETHER TO BREAK AWAY FROM EARTH OR NOT!

She would have had a vote?

Maybe not as part of the resistance, but she was part of the command staff... So probably not. Corwin was slutted when they blindsided him with the coup.

Hmm.

Corwin and Julie?

That's a much more intriguing pairing.

One good thing about that episode is it made me look up some of Shari Shattuck's other work.
